Calling all coll ers I need your help!
« on: May 16, 2008, 01:25:38 PM »
Hi guys, I am snowed under with college work at the moment so not much time for anything let alone being on here, but I need some info for an essay if anyone would like to help.

I need to know

1 What you feed? Brand names, wet or dry or Barf

2 If  it is a specific lifestage diet such as puppy, junior, Adult maintenance etc?

Has your dog got any behavioural problems and if so how many? (these can be anything from mild to severe and anything you consider to be a problem to you.)

Thanks in advance and If you don't want to post on here then please PM me.
All info will be treated in the strictest confidence if you so wish and no personal details will be mentioned in the results of my study.
Hope you can help. ;)

Elmo, 13 months fed on Skinners adult maintenance muesli and Nature Diet 1/2 and 1/2

Behavioural problems: Mild seperaion anxiety in the house but can be left alone in the house with no anxiety (come back and find him snoozing on the sofa watching telly ::)) I dont consider it a problem as he isnt destructive and doesnt get upset, just follows and waits patiently with the odd squeak thrown in.

Hi Mark,  I'm happy to help.

I feed Burns Brown Chicken & Rice hypo-allergenic holistic dry food which is an adult including seniors food to 2 of my dogs.
Meg has Natures Harvest hypo-allergenic Senior Food - wet plus Bertie's Gluton Free Mixer.  She also has bones and veg/fruit as part ofher diet.

One of my dogs, Jakey, has behavioural issues.  Fear aggression around people in that he won't tolerate being touched by strangers.  This is quite bad when he's on lead but is not a major problem as I just tell people not to approach him.  He can be a little difficult in the house, if you tell him to do something it has to be done in the most relaxed manner with no raised voice and certainly never put your hand down as if to grab him because he will growl and snap if necessary.  Trust is a big issue with Jakey and he doesn't like to feel forced into anything  Again, this is not a major problem for us but it all means that if we ever need to leave him it has to be with people that he knows and trusts.  He has quite serious issues when in the car he will not under any circumstances let a stranger touch him or if he is feeling unsettled for any reason we have to be careful when getting him out of the car, if we move too quickly or he thinks we're being threatening he will bite.

Poor Jakey I make him sound awful.  He is lovely, honest.

Other 2 don't have behavioural issues.

I hope this is the sort of info you were looking for.  If I've left anything out please let me know.
Louise & my beautiful girl Meg xx

Burns adult kibble. no behavioural issues other than being a bit of a jumper when he's excited if that counts!

Hello
Charlie 3 year old. Main diet is Nature Diet for adults, he has this as it is hollistic and additive free to help him to be calm (doesn't work tho  :005:). He occasionally has JWB adult maintainence.
Charlie has "issues" including biting people if he feels trapped or uncomfortable in a situation, this is a minor problem, but mainly due to effective management, we make sure he is not put in theses positions and muzzle him if it is unavoidable.
He also tells off (barks meanacingly) some dogs that come close up to his face, unless it is a dog he knows quite well, or we are at dog class. This is a bigger probelm as it is much harder to manage.
He will bark at most thing he has not encountered before, for example on holiday he barked for some time at a hay bail, yesterday he was telling a kite he was not impressed! Not usually a problem unless a child or scared adult is involved as they react to his barking (which does sound a bit scarey) and then he reacts to their reaction!
He also steals bread scavanges chocolate bars and thier wrappers  :005:
Not sure if this is what you want, but I hope it helps.
Good luck with your course
Claire

Melody is fed on Naturediet and is quite laid back.  Her only real behavioural thing is her manners around other dogs, we don't meet many dogs on our walks so she thinks she's the one and only dog on the planet  ::) :005:

Ruby is fed on Arden Grange adult, sometimes mixed with wet food ,natures menu or fresh meat.
Ruby has some issues with traffic, i.e buses, tractors or anything thats big and noisy. She can also sometimes react to certain people, doesn't like window cleaners and postmen, and some items of clothing, i.e bright coloured clothing, uniforms, or long floaty clothing.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.

Lola aged 18 months

Arden Grange Adult for brekkie.  BARF for tea (chicken wing, tripe, lamb rib/breast).  Raw egg is her weekend treat.

No behavioural issues but she is very submissive to every dog we meet, big or small. Straight down on her tummy and wriggles along the ground.

Lola (8 months) is feed on burns adult and natures menu adult
she is quite a fearful dog around new things
is fearful of young children aged under 10 years ..although was socialised with young children..nieces and nephews ..and i think if pushed she would snap if put into a situation she finds scary..not had any situation like that though as i don't put her in that position
she is a resource guarder anything she finds which she then views as hers...cow pats included...its mostly with biba but she has on occasions growled at me over a ball..we are working on that  ::)

biba (nearly 2 years) is on a BARF diet
the only issue she has is she will growl occasionally when she doesn't want to do something you have asked her to do..however nicely you put it
EDT: oh and she is quite fearful around other dogs will avoid them by taking a different route so she doesnt have to go near them...especially fearful of labs and GSD ...was attacked quite a lot as a pup  :-\ she just seemed to have one of those faces that other dogs wanted to slap  ::) ok with dogs she is familar with  ;)

Rosie 9 months fed on JWB (adult )brilliant except she barks every morning at 5.45 Also barks at passing dogs and signposts  :005: Fantastic temperment, very gentle  :luv:

Bailey 3   is on Royal Canin prescription diet at the moment as prone to weight gain. When target is reached back to JWB maybe or royal canin maintainance control   She has had prescription diet before so we are keen to keep the weight down as she has Hip dyslaysia. Bailey is a food o holic. She will pester for food and is very vocal around meal times. Can be grumpy with my other dogs.

Bracken 11  JWB (adult )sensitive tummy. No behavour issues

Lucy 9 JWB (adult) No behaviour issues
