Brilliant find - the Super Detatter!!
« on: April 08, 2008, 05:09:39 PM »
I'm chuffed to bits having been recommended the Super Detatter.

It's a nifty gadget aimed at removing knots within long hair.  At this stage I would like to point out that Lottie gets very few knots, however, she gets the odd one or two (mostly from getting wet in her harness).  As she is such a fidget pants I really worry going anywhere near her with round end scissors especially without any help.

It cuts the knot without fear of nicking her skin and can be used at any angle.  I can manage to keep the full coat effect without stressing Lottie if I do come across a small knot.  Apparently you can also use it on rabbits and horses (manes and tails) and they launched it at Crufts this year.

PS - I hope this doesn't infer that I'm a bad Mum  ::) for letting Lottie get the odd (very rare!!) knot but for those of you like me who sometimes struggles this is a great aid.  I can imagine it would be great for rescue dogs!!

I saw this but thought it was a bit pricey really :-\ I've got a matt splitter from Simpsons which is quite similar but was less than £10 (you have to reverse the blades for left handed use though). Glad you like it though - a good matt splitter does save a lot of time :D

Sounds good to me poor Sasha gets some horrible matts, even though she is brushed and combed everyday, She doesn't seem to drop hair like the other two and being curly seems to trap loose hair. So I'm gonna give this ago.

Hmm this looks interesting I was just about to buy a coat king, could you use this like a coat king and de-matter do you think?  Or would I need both?

Lottie gets knots in her armpits and that's where I use it most.  I have the confidence that whilst I can't really see what I'm doing under her pits she won't get nicked - so yes it's good for under arms!  You can use it at awkward angles.

I have both because it doesn't really cut/strip unknotted hair unlike the coat king.
