My wonderful girl who will be 13 in July has been unwell with diarrhoea and passing jelly like blood too so took her to the vets this morning. Luckily our wonderful favourite vet fitted us in - Ebony doesn't like the vets at all and so by seeing the vet who understands her was great. Anyway, Ebony has lost over 1kg but our vet thought that with antibiotics, anti inflammatories and pain killers she would improve. Then she very gently told us that Ebony has an enlarged spleen - I was so shocked - she said we need to get Ebony better from this colon infection first and we are going back in a week to talk about the spleen. Would just be grateful if anyone has had any experience with this sort of thing, many thanks.

Sorry, have no help or advice to offer, I'm sure someone will be along soon who has, but wish Ebony all the best and will keep fingers and paws crossed! Sending :bigarmhug: to Ebony!

While I have no experience of this - I would like to send all healing thoughts to Ebony and a big hug to you both.
It is a horrible time when our precious cockers are unwell.

I know it's hard but try not to jump to the worst conclusion. We all do it. A spleen can enlarge as a response to infection because it's involved in removing dead bacteria from the blood- and it can become overactive. It could be so in this case. Fingers crossed!

No advise, but healing thoughts being sent for Ebony and some gentle :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: for you both

as has been suggested an enlarged spleen my just be because there's an infection elsewhere - its hard not to worry I know but hope Ebony gets well soon
A couple of years ago Wilf had an enlarged spleen while he was fighting an infection
Have you had bloods taken at all - worth it if there is any weight loss and other symptoms you're seeing to check platelets, red/white blood cells and biochemistry
-
Thinkinb of you both and hope she will be feeling better soon

Thank you so much for all your lovely messages - they make me feel so comforted. Ebony is actually improving thank goodness - hopefully due to the anti biotics and anti inflammatories - and we are hoping that perhaps the infection has been the cause of the enlarged spleen. She is due back at the vets on Wednesday so I will have more news then. Thanks so much. Jill and Ebony xx

Lovely to read Ebony has improved  i will be keeping everything crossed for good results on Wednesday. These oldies are such a worry aren't they, I've noticed that when Ben (12) is not right it's more noticeable than when he was younger., they take more time to bounce back.
:bigarmhug: for Ebony

Ebony was back at the vets yesterday - her spleen is still enlarged - and now it's a waiting game - just got to keep an eye on our beautiful girl - if she shows any signs of internal bleeding or generally getting unwell. We're remaining positive and just appreciating every minute we have with her - these Cockers just pull at our heart strings! Thanks so much everyone for your wonderful comments. Xx
