Introducing me and my Eds
« on: July 17, 2014, 10:38:00 AM »
Hi everyone, I joined this forum by searching via Google and asking the following question:  "are all Cockers so talkative?" and I found my answer on here  :005: My Eds chats and groans all day long keeping me company and distracting me from my work  :lol2:.  He  is a rescue, but in truth he rescued me!  I have had him 3 years now and I can't imagine how I ever managed without him.

Sadly he is dog reactive and shows some fear aggression to other dogs - but I manage him very well (after a lot of training and soul searching and reading up on doggie behaviour and discovering a water pistol!!).  He is however,  best friends with my parent's dog Woody (a gorgeous, patient Flatcoat retriever) Our problem is mainly random friendly bigger dogs who bound up to us and want to be friends, so our Walks are solitary affairs in remote, quiet[/img][/img] places!  :-\ but I find it the best approach and also places where I can see far ahead and have alternative paths to take should I spot another dog in the distance!!

I never had a Cocker before, and I am still learning all about their ways and what a great breed they are!

Hope to learn more on here!
Cheers
Emma

Hi and Welcome to you Eddie :D

I'm fairly new here myself  and have found  the people here are friendly & helpful. Your little fellow sounds a character, my girl is a talkative one too. I think it's sweet the way they communicate  :luv:

Well I Squirt him with it if he starts his maniacal barking and lunging and snarling at dogs passing by our garden also he doesn't like men...  :'( So I find its by the far best way than just shouting him or trying to drag him away.... it works very effectively and I do not believe it is cruel and it works right away!!

Ok , Have a wee look at the behaviour
board, there is a pinned, sticky topic
called "the dangers of adversives" by our
own Top Barks (Mark).
See what you think(, by the way, I'm not

Thanks, no I don't think you are having a go at me  :P but I have had him for 3 years now, and his behaviour is much improved!! Thank God!! I actually saved him from being PTS, so I had to find a system that works and was humane - but I will read it anyway !  ;)
