Title: 6 month old pup - how much to feed him!
Post by: LTMot on February 11, 2024, 06:24:10 AM
Hi there
My male WCS is now 6 months old and on a raw diet but I'm finding conflicting advice on how much to feed him and how often. I've seen 2-3% of bodyweight - is that right? He is currently on three meals a day - when should that go down to 2? Both his parents are small cockers (around 10kg). He is 10.4kg but doesn't look overweight, we can still feel ribs etc and he is quite tall so I imagine he will be a bit bigger than his parents. Thanks!

The 2-3% is a guide for adult dogs who are fully grown - ie about 12 months. Puppies need quite a bit more. Obviously any extras like ribs or wings need to form part of his daily allowance.

There's a useful guide here: https://henleyrawdogfood.com/henley-raw-feeding-guide/

Sounds like he's got some more growing to do.

As to the number of meals - I went down to 2 meals a day at about 6 months - you could start reducing it gradually or, if he isn't too bothered, just cut him down to 2 meals.
