Since early yesterday Aspen has been limping intermittently. He is fine when walking but when running or using stairs he holds his paw up. He was still having problems this morning so I got one of the vets to have a look and after a lot of prodding and poking, the conclusion is that he has a foreign body in his paw. I have to give him over the weekend to see if it pops out itself but if not, he will need an op to investigate on Monday.
He timed it very well actually as it means he can't go in for his first show tomorrow ;) His coat is nowhere near ready so that was very handy :005: We can now just relax and spectate (and shop!!) instead....stress-free
-
Poor Aspen - I do hope it comes out of its own accord. Let us know how he gets on and enjoy your shopping ;)
-
Aaaah poor little man. Hope he's better soon.
And your a very naughty cocker mummy blaming him for your depleted bank balance after the show - you'd have spent money anyway I bet ;) :005: I remember your Doggy christmas present tally :005: :005: :005:
-
Awww what a shame, poor Aspen, those boys don't half keep you on your toes Gill ;)
Hope all is well x
-
awww poor little fella :luv: hope it will pop out on it's own ;)
-
Ahh bless :luv: I hope it sorts itself out and he doesn't need that op.
Thinking of him.
-
Aw, poor Aspen :luv:
Penel has recommended a homeopathic remedy in the past for drawing out foreign bodies - I'll see if I can find the thread
Edited to add: found it (linky) (http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?topic=10986.0)! Penel said Homeopathic Silica (6c) pillules (tablets) - you should be able to pick it up in any good Boots or Holland and Barratt - draws out foreign bodies from tissue..... :D
-
Oooh brilliant - thanks for that Rachel. Will send someone into town to get that for me tomorrow
-
hope it works it's way out and aspen feels better soon.
gill, do you show any of your other dogs?
-
Aww, poor Aspen, hope the foreign body comes out of it's own accord. Do you have any more photo's of him for us yet?
-
gill, do you show any of your other dogs?
No - Dallas is too small & Disney managed 1 show before he lost his nose pigment. Aspen now has a reprieve until August for his first show so as long as his nose stays black we should be fine ;)
-
Poor Aspen. Hope you don't need surgery!
-
I hope he improves over the weekend.
Something we always used to use for splinters and things when we were little, was sugar and soap. Used to draw them out within a few hours and worked every time! Not sure how practical it would be for a dog's paw though!! :-\ :005:
-
Hope it all goes well whatever happens
-
Hope Aspen is ok.
Sorry, I only just caught up with this thread.
-
Hope it comes out of its own accord Gill, poor little boy :'( and shame on you for sounding so cheerful about ducking out of showing him :police: You'll have to do it one day y'know :D
-
Just an update - all seems fine now so no op required
-
That's good news Gill, and I don't want to hear it has come back just before your next show either ;)
-
Just saw this, I'm really glad he's ok and doesn't need the op and I hope Vegas is feeling better now too... lots of cocker cuddles on the way to both of them! :luv:
-
Ahhh what a relief, glad to hear that Gill :D
-
Brilliant news ;)
-
Great news :D
-

ph34r
-
That's great news.
-
How's Aspen Gill?
:luv:
-
Great news - PS don;t let Aspen know there's a show coming up then he/you've no excuse ;)
-
Although there is no show coming up ;), he has been showing signs of lameness again. Not as severe as the last occasion but it is definitely there. TBH, I've been watching him closely the past couple of weeks and I have noticed that he appears to walk funny with regards to his front legs but I can't put my finger on what it is  I think I will have to make an appt for the vets at the weekend and get him checked out :-\
-
Oh poor little guy. Do you think it's a leg thing rather than a foreign object?
Hope he's not too uncomfortable. :luv:
-
Oh poor Aspen - fingers crossed Gill. :luv:
-
That's a shame - I hope you get to the bottom of this, poor Aspen. :luv:
-
I've got him an appt for Thursday evening so hopefully we will find out the cause of it then
-
I've got him an appt for Thursday evening so hopefully we will find out the cause of it then
Hope it goes well Gill, goes without saying, let us know ;)
-
Poor Aspen, hope the vet finds the cause and you get him sorted. Give him a hug from me. I've not been at the training class for so long I haven't met the wee fella yet.
-
aaaw Gill  Hope all is ok :-*
-
Sorry to hear Aspen is not well, Snoopy and I will be sending lots of :luv: to you both for Thursday, let us know how you get on?
-
Sorry I missed this earlier Gill. I hope everything goes well.
-
Hope its nothing too serious Gill.
-
Aw poor Aspen - Peps sympathises and send lots of cocker hugs :luv:
-
Fingers crossed they get to the bottom of this :-\
-
He went to the vets this evening and it seems he has a problem with his right elbow. He is to have anti-inflammatories and restricted exercise for 2 weeks then he has to go back. If no improvement, then it will be x-rays etc
-
DHope it clears up quickly.
Get lots of bed rest Aspen.
-
Gosh, that's going to be hard isn't it?
Do hope it clears up without the need for surgery.
-
Awww, hope it sorts its self out Gill x
-
Hope everything is ok and that it clears up quickly :-*
-
Poor Aspen, hope he manages to rest and gets better soon ;)
-
Poor boy :luv: hope it can be sorted soon for him
-
Oh dear! Hope the rest and medication does the trick.
-
How's Aspen dong now, Gill?
-
Not noticing any difference on the tablets :-\ I have to go back next Thursday but I would have thought that I would have seen some improvement by now. I wish I hadn't thrown out Brook's Rhus Tox as I would have given that a shot ::)
-
Poor Aspen. I hope he shows some signs of improving Gill.
-
oh i do hope he starts getting better soon - it sometimes does take a while for medication to work. keep positive.
hugs

Went back to the vets this evening with Aspen and he has to go in tomorrow for x-rays :-\ When its their first anaesthetic, i worry myself to the point of a nervous breakdown ph34r. The vet is quite concerned that it has gone on as long as it has (4 weeks) and that there was absolutely no improvement with the Rimadyl. He is going to be looking for developmental problems with the elbow and/or the shoulder and if that is all clear, then it will be a further months rest with stronger medication ::)
The vet we got this evening was lovely and I was just thinking away to myself what a :luv: he was, then he said that Aspen was FAT :o So now I think he's just a good looking >:D :005: :005:and a bloody cheeky one at that ;)
-
Well I'll have my fingers crossed for you chuck and for The wee fella too.
-
Aww poor Aspen, hope all goes well Gill, try not to worry too much ;)
-
Gill I'm sorry I totally missed this post altogether. ph34r
I'm sorry to hear about poor Aspen. I'll be thinking of you both tomorrow. :luv:
-
I missed the post too Gill....well at least that things had gone any further.
Hope all goes well, take care little Aspen :luv: :luv: and Gill xx
-
Thinking of you and Aspen today Gill. :luv:
-
Fingers crossed for the little one today. :luv:
-
Hope everything goes well with Aspen today
Will be thinking of you both :luv:
xx
-
Best of luck today Gill, bless his little paws.
:luv:
-
My goodness, the waiting is dreadful :-\ I phoned at 2pm (after worrying all morning that he was going to die under anaesthetic and giving myself a heart attack every time my mobile went!) to be told that he was just in the process of being done so to phone back at 4pm! Ah well - I'm at work today so keeping myself busy and I managed to sneak away to the butchers to buy chicken for his special tea ;)
-
Today must be the longest day!! Hoping all goes well - which I'm sure it will ;)
-
hope all goes well gill.fingers crossed for aspen.
-
I do hope everything goes well for Aspen this afternoon Gill.
-
The baby is home and has tucked into his chicken. The problem seems to be his shoulder but it is only a bad sprain as opposed to anything like OCD. His medication has been changed to Metacam and he has to go back in 2 weeks for another check up.
-
That hopefully sounds like good news. Let's hope the Metacam works where the Rimadyl failed. Enjoy your chicken little man :luv:
-
Well - not decisive I guess - but not bad news. Be good and getter better littel fella :luv:
-
hope they've found the source of his trouble and he's on the road to recovery.
get well quick little man :luv:
-
I saw this last night but couldn't post Gill, I'm sorry.
I have been thinking of you though, and I know how hard today must have been.
I'm glad he's home safe and sound and that at least you haven't had any bad news. But it is frustrating isn't it.
I must say that with all my years in Orthopaedic nursing I have often found that a sprain can take longer to heal than a fracture. So I hope Aspen will be more comfortable with the new meds, and soon be fit and well.
btw: the vet saying he's fat!!!!!! How can you keep his weight down when you have to rest him anyway? ;)
-
Glad Aspen is home . Keeping everthing crossed for you.
-
I bet your glad hes home Gill, hope he enjoyed his chicken and gets better soonx xx
-
Not been on much recently - flaming school closed for 6 whole weeks & my kids are getting in the way of my Melody and COL time ph34r :005:
Anyway - just wanted to say hope Aspen is feeling better soon :luv:
-
I must say that with all my years in Orthopaedic nursing I have often found that a sprain can take longer to heal than a fracture.
Tell me about it, poor Wilf is still onlead walks only (since Easter saturday) and hydrotherapy after his 'crash' with the collie (he's off to the vet referral centre in Swansea in 3 weeks if its no better).
Hope Aspen gets well soon

I must say that with all my years in Orthopaedic nursing I have often found that a sprain can take longer to heal than a fracture.
Vegas had a similar injury when he was running and slipped on his 1st birthday ph34r That took forever to heal as well . In Aspens case I think the vet was concerned that I hadn't seen or heard him injure himself and it had come on suddenly. But at least now I know what we are dealing with so we will just get on with it. He was soooo sleepy and calm yesterday, it was great  However he is back to normal today although he is even more lame due to all the manipulation of his leg yesterday ::) He hopes his fellow sufferer Wilf gets better soon too ;) Its just no fun being stuck on the lead >:(
