Title: Oh Help
Post by: Vivienne on July 18, 2007, 08:15:53 AM
Whistler has a large squisy lump on his side that has just burst all brown pussy stuff, it would explain his bad tummy, I can't understand why he has been so bouncy now he is in his bed and I will phone the vet at 9am on the dot. Oh dear whats the advice Im frantic now!! my poor pup.
I have been grooming him and didnt notice until late last night!!
Oh dear I could not bear him to die. What do I do

Oh my goodness! I hope he's okay.

It sounds like an abcess to me, and an infection like that would make him feel pretty icky. Fingers crossed it's just a case of anitibiotics needed. :-*

Maybe a bite that has gone nasty??  I would just wash it with warm salty water and keep it clean and let the vet have a look at it if you are worried about it.  Hope he is OK - if he is still bouncy it probably isn't bothering him too much so don't worry.  ;)

Try not to panic :-\ easy said I know ;)
I have no idea what it could be, so no advice ..it sounds like ringing the vet is the best, so you've got things in hand so far ;) I might say try cleaning the area with very dilute warm saline.

Hope you get on ok

Our cat used to regualry get abcesses when he would insist on fighting with cats, clean it with saline solution and go to the vets for antibiotics. Can you see if there is now a small crater type hole left?

Its just puss all over his coat and he has retired to his bed. No blood just brown stuff the vet should be open in about 5 minutes.

He fights with new pup Jake its my guess he caught him or a tick he has been prone to ticks about 4 Oh god I was calmer with my kids!!

Just give it a clean and you should be able to see what the problem is!  ;)

And stop panicking - it is probably nothing serious  :shades: :D

We went to the vet and he shaved a big patch off Whistlers size and uncovered an enormous
4" SLUG
OMG I am an idiot, my husband and I breather a sigh of relief we had been squishing a huge slug that had got all magled up in his dense fir.  Wiull have to use a black felt tip to disguise a huge shaved patch. A SLUG UGGHH! I had my pup dead and buried I was never so upset over my kids!!

Got whistler a new chewey shoe and a couple of bikkies for his daft Mum & Dad.

Thanks for your reassurance I'll comb deeper next time...UGG

So glad he is better, but of the beauty of a white working cocker, so little grooming and you see everything.
i really take my hat of to people with dogs with lots of coat, I don't think I could put all that time into it.

Me dogs got a bald patch!! I can laugh now even my OH was worried he thought it was an abcess. Whistler is laughing I am sure the vet was!! He did say he had never had that one before he did it for nothing! he's south african  v young called Finn!! fitted us in straight away!!
We haven't got the results from the lab yet re his tummy. I keep thinking of squising that slug.. all over his coat, its bath time when we get home and a comb over!! and thats just for me!! Poor Whistler has panic stricken parents, hope he dosent go back to his breeder asking to be re homed with normal people.
Glad I gave you all a laugh!! SLUG's who would have thought it was right up by his left shoulder must have been hitching a lift OH said he bet it didn;'t leap on Whis in passing!! must have rolled on it and it buried in for the winter..

I am always finding little slugs in my cats fur - esp the long haired ones (cats, not slugs! ;)).  Just sitting having a nice peaceful kitty snuggle and then you find a soft squishy slug - it is yukky and can be quite messy getting them out.  >:(

Will you be changing vets now are will you dare to show your face there again?!  :005:

Oh that's the funniest thing I've read for ages  :rofl1: Sorry!
I can see why you were so worried though. It did sound from your earlier description as though it was an abcess :005: and the bathing in salt water suggestions would have dealt with abcess or slug equally efficiently.

You guys are mean!  :police:

You shouldn't be laughing  :005:

No, really honest, you shouldn't laugh at that

Oh, I'm sorry, but that is just too funny    Hope you'll forgive us but you gave us a good laugh (and I bet your vet did too! Nice of him not to charge you, mine isn't that humourous I don't think!)  :005:

That's soooo funny!

I really thought you had an awful abscess there.

 :rofl1: :rofl1: :rofl1:

I am so glad it wasn't anything serious.

Your lovely vet is going to be dining out on that one for years. Let's hope he doesn't start writing his memoirs!  Oh, you are going to be famous!!!!!! :005:

He is sat under my chair in the office now all nice smelling and combed. I was soo relieved, my OH had an old dog once that kept getting abcesses, on the way to the vet he kept telling me that the vet would keep him in, we were so worried!!
Couldn't eat tea I kept thinking of how we squished the muck into his coat.
Whistler didn't take kindly to another bath but I am resolved to combing before vet and if you squish things and said dog does not squeak its a slug.
Oh dear what with ticks and slugs, at least with the kids they washed off easier.. grass seeds are a pain I keep pulling them off his ears as well, we have had 4 ticks all reddish brown but use Advantix so they are all dead ones now.
So we are down to dickie tummy and hopefully today vet (if he can stop laughing) calling with the culture results.

Was funny though

Viv & v clean Whistler

Our fluffy cat happily offers a transport service to the slugs in the garden. I think he just lies down on them without noticing, usually little black ones. :005:

We are on to blood tests and more special id food and tablets. First bloods looked ok - good, had to get a mid stream urine sample this morning, got a splash and a really disgusted look!!
Next is pancreas (cant spell it) still poohing bubbly slush.
