Can anyone help with what might be wrong with Jeff? He isn't settling and he keeps looking up and round, as if following watching something moving over his head. I've just picked him up from the sitter and apparently he's been doing it all day. He's panting a bit and his eyes are quite red (but that may be because he has spent the day circling and "watching" things rather than napping).
Has anyone come across this behaviour before? I've googled it but can't find anything.
He's just done it again - seemed to be dozing off then suddenly started, head came up and he "watched" the non-existant thing again :-\
I'm quite worried about the little chap :'(
-
The only thing that came to mind is a "brain episode" but without a seizure :-\ (sorry if i scare you)
Can you get his attention while he is staring at the invisible object,or does he seem "somewhere else"
I know you would anyway but if it continues i would take him to the vet for a check up ;)
I hope he settles soon.
-
Off to the vet now - wish us luck :'(
-
Good luck hopefully he'll be fine.
-

Hope Jeff gets on ok at the vets :bigarmhug:
-
Hope Jeff is ok :luv: Freya does something similar to this at times, she looks up and then twists her head back down, and does it a few times at once usually, but never in a prolonged episode as you have described :-\
-
Awww Liz, I do hope it's nothing too serious. Keep us updated. Sarah
-
Fingers crossed that your vet has put your mind at rest, and that it is nothing serious :bigarmhug:
-
Everything crossed here that Jeff is ok :bigarmhug:'s for you both :luv:

Hope Jeff is ok :-* wonder if it could be some sort of ear problem causing vertigo like symptoms?
-
caring thoughts for your special lad Liz - really hope the vet can find the cause of the problem & soon have Jeff back to his old self again :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:
wondered if it might be a 'hearing' incident going on too. I know he's deaf but could it be a tinitus type episode that is unsettling him. Will keep an eye out for updates :luv:
-
:bigarmhug: for Jeff :luv: and you :bigarmhug:
-
I really hope Jeff is o.k. :bigarmhug: for you
-
We're back. Still not sure what's happening, but his pupils aren't reacting to light. He isn't showing any other signs of illness - gobbled up his dinner and is perfectly happy and waggy, doesn't have a temperature and heart and lungs are fine. The vet has taken bloods and is going to call back later tonight when the results are through. OH will take him to see the eye specialist tomorrow.
-
Just caught up with this thread I do hope Jeff is ok? sending healing thoughts for him :luv: :luv: x x x
-
You must both be so worried, will be thinking of you tomorrow. In the meantime, hope he has a comfortable night :-* :bigarmhug:

Aww poor Jeff, hope you have some good positive results later. Sarah.

Hope you get good news soon hun :-*
-
Everything crossed here that the vet calls with some positive news for you very soon Liz. :bigarmhug:
-
Vet just called, bloods are normal and she says it's unlikely to be a brain injury as she found no sign of this. OH is booked in to take him to the eye specialist at 13.40 tomorrow. I am wondering PRA, but his parents are tested clear
-
Oh poor Jeff!! And how worrying for you and the family :016:
I hope tomorrow brings more a specific diagnosis and Jeff is back to his old self soon!! :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:
-
This must be so worrying for you. Sending lots of positive thoughts for Jeff and :bigarmhug: for all of you.
-
Aw poor little mite, big hugs and kisses, hope all goes well tomorrow xx
Will be thinking of you all.
-
Poor Jeff, hope you get some positive answers soon. Sending lots of healing thoughts and :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:
Will be thinking of you all tomorrow :luv:
-
Now I've got myself in a right stew, googling the symptoms and finding some plants can cause them - apparently he was out in the garden much of the day at the sitters' house.
He is doing the weird hallucinating thing even more now, his pupils are dilated and not reacting to light, his tummy is gurgly, every time he tries to doze off he jumps out of his skin and wakes up again.
DOn't know whether to call a different vet for a second opinion - what do you think? sooo worried :'(
-
sounds like he could have eaten something ...... perhaps call the vets out of hours for advice....i hope hes ok xxxx
-
Oh so sorry Liz :'(
I think Jeff needs to go back to the vets asap :shades: sorry but thats what i would do
-
did your vet question poisoning Liz? - if not, you could always give the out of hours a ring to give you peace of mind ...they'll be able to advise you properly, especially if you think it may be a possibility & if you won't rest for worrying tonight ;)
stop googling hun - you'll only make yourself worry more :bigarmhug:
-
I would give your vet that you've already seen a ring Liz and ask them whether they considered that option and if they did and discounted it, why exactly. See if they can put your mind at rest - it may be thats what they tested for in the blood tests :-\
-
I agree with MaggieR, contact the vet you have already seen. Sending hugs to you and Jeff :bigarmhug:
-
How worrying for you. I do hope he is OK :luv:
-
He's managed to fall asleep now, so I'll leave it for the moment. Think I'll take him to bed now and we'll both try and get some kip - if he gets any worse I can call the vet then (doesn't cost any more at 2am than 10.30pm!)
I thin k she did consider poisoning as she mentioned mushrooms and I said he'd been in the garden during the day, but I guess the toxins would have shown in the bloods and there would have been other symptoms (such as high temperature, sensitive tummy, increased heart rate).
Thanks so much (again) for you support and kind words :-*
-
Must be such a worry for you, will be thinking of you guys tonight
:bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

Hello All,
Jeff is absolutely FINE  >:D
Little devil is because that's what he is - he is totally back to normal, pupils dilating and contracting, eyes fine, no panting or staring into space. I, however, have red eyes and feel exhausted after waking up every half an hour to check Jeff was still breathing. The vet suspects magic mushrooms ph34r So basically is seems Jeff was on a big trip :happydance: It would explain the rate he ate his kibble last night and this morning.
I have been trying to get hold of the dog sitters to ask them to see if they can spot the little blighters in their garden (might invite myself round for a cup of "tea") - not sure what a very respectable retired couple will make of the whole episode :005:
Thank you all so much for your advice, kind words and support :bigarmhug:
-
Yippeee!!!
Have to say I laughed my socks of that while we were all stressing about him Jeff was High as a Kite!
Hope you get a good nights sleep tonight
Trish XxxX

-
So pleased he is ok now.
-
I have just spoken to Mrs Sitter and she's going to see if she can find mushrooms tomorrow. I had to explain to her what they looked like ph34r

-
I'm so pleased Jeff is ok after his little trip,a bottle of wine and an early night is needed i think ;)
Today i was poo hunting in the grass in the garden when i noticed a few clusters of toadstools or mushrooms (i don't know the difference)they were a bit frayed at the edges and i don't know if they had been chewed on or grow that way but as i was ripping them up i thought of Jeff and was going to mention it tonight(didn't have pc access today).
-
Jeff you little tinker (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-dance004.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php) fancy worrying your mum like that :005:

Please Jeff don't give your mum any more frights like this one, just so happy that he is OK.
-
I am so pleased he is alright.
Have to say, you would have to explain to me what they look like as well.
-
So pleased he's back to normal. I had to stop Ebony from sniffing some in the garden the other day. I think because we have had such a warm damp November it's ideal growing conditions.
It reminds me of a story of a goat that got high. He had been eating plants from a neighbours garden........cannabis :005:
-
:dunno: :dunno:
I am so pleased he is alright.
Have to say, you would have to explain to me what they look like as well.
and me :dunno: ??
-
Have to say, you would have to explain to me what they look like as well.
I was brought up in Somerset. Magic mushrooms are small, brown, low to the ground, usually in grass and with little "nipples" on top.
-
Jeff what are you like :005: you scared us all to death you little minx you :005: :luv: :luv: x x x
-
Glad to hear Jeff is okay. Hope he does'nt have a large hangover. They do choose the right time to get into scrapes just before Xmas.
Erica.
-
:013: Thank goodness, so pleased Jeffs ok :luv: Hope hes not hooked on those mushrooms :005:
-
Have just read this entire thread in one go. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but its such a funny thread!
It starts off so seriously (rightly so) and by the end I was laughing my head off about Jeff on his trip, and Mrs Sitter rummaging around in the garden for Magic Mushrooms.
I'm glad he's okay and it was nothing more serious. Let's hope he doesn't turn into a "truffles" dog and snuffle Magic Mushrooms from anywhere else.
-
So pleased that he is back to normal :D :D
A spaced out cocker!!!! What next????
-
Glad it's a happy ending, wonder what hallucinations he was having :005:
Now this is something I wouldn't have even thought about, we have little brown mushrooms on the grass at the moment. Off to clear them out tomorrow.
-
So glad he's better. We shall all watch out for them now.
-
Just read this report on our local BBC news page -
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-16016901
Looks like it is not just the magic variety that needs to be avoided :shades:
So pleased that Jeff is now back to normal :D
-
Only just seen this thread, poor little devil or not depending on what he was seeing :005: Bless him. Pleased he has recovered.
-

Thank goodness I didn't see that until he was better - I would have been beside myself :'(
-
Jeff is still a bit poorly - he's boingy and greedy as ever but has the diawotsits; presumably the shrooms have worked their way through. Mr and Mrs Sitter did find mushrooms in the garden and have removed them ph34r
-
Poor Jeff you are having it abit ruff boy :luv: hopefully now the nasty magic mushrooms have gone this will solve the problem :luv: :luv: x x x
-
I believe that mushies caused
Ellies mystery illness in November
Her symptoms were similar but she's
not telling what happened ;)
