Afraid we would lose Lulu
« on: May 12, 2013, 04:05:59 PM »
Hi all, we were on holiday last week in Cornwall and on the bank holiday Monday we had to take Lulu (three yesterday)
to an emergency vet because she started bumping into things and falling over, we couldn't cuddle her because she was so agitated and panting. When we got to the vets he said he hadn't seen anything like it before. We put her on the floor in the vets and she bumped into the corner wall and then tried to climb it. It was so traumatic to see our little girl like this and made
worse because we had to leave her there so far from our holiday destination let alone from our home.Lulu had various tests
and had various drugs and injections to try to calm her down and was put on a drip for forty eight hours.
Morning came and we had a call from the vet who suggested she may have to go and have an MRI scan way up in Bristol because she may have a problem with her brain. You can only imagine how we felt, around teatime she had improved and we could go and collect her and was told to monitor her. I am please to say she is now ok but what caused it remains a painful mystery.Has anyone been in a similar situation.

What a dreadful experience for you all. I'm glad Lulu is better now.

Does Lulu have to go to your own vet for any kind of follow up, or are you just monitoring to see how she goes?

It sounds as though she may have been hallucinating, had she been in a forest or picked something up of the beach? anyway I'm so pleased that she has recovered  :luv:

How very frightening for you and Lulu.

What has your vet said?

Hope you find out what has caused it.

Lulu seems to be back to normal, no follow up planned at our own vets. I suppose we'll never know what caused it.

Poor Lulu, I'm so glad she's better  :bigarmhug: The symptoms sound very much like when Jeff ate magic mushrooms from his (very respectable, retired) sitters' garden, but that was Autumn  :dunno: Saying that, according to this forum a wet spring can cause a flush in early May (see fourth post down): http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/1383063 (please note, I Googled this out of curiosity, I'm not a regular member of the forum ph34r)

Cornwall is a magnet for rich young things with expensive habits (especially on a warm BH weekend) - perhaps something was dropped which he snaffled  :-\

Jeff was bumping into things like he'd gone blind and had hugely dilated pupils, as well as panting, being unable to settle (walking round in circles) and tracking invisible flies - the vet referred to an eye specialist first appointment next morning, by which time he'd "come down" and was fine  :shades:
