Back to vets with frankie and his skin/nose
« on: May 24, 2013, 03:10:02 PM »
Saw our usual vet this morning and he has taken a blood sample to try and get to the bottom of what is causing the problems with Frankie, his nose was much worse this morning, with hard crusty bits all round the opening of the nose, very sore under his nose and hes making noises like his nose is blocked. the the fur around his eye damp so obviously all connected. While we are waiting for the blood test results he is back on the antibotics and had a steroid injection to try and help the symptoms, its not the answer but we know it has cleared it the past two times this had happened.  The vet says its some kind of allergy but to what he doesnt know so could be a length process to find out, Poor little soul is constantly licking his paws and making them sore but as soon as we distract him he goes and hides and starts again.  The rash has now come back on the back of his front leg and his head which had completely healed after the last time he had it.  its so strange that he never had this before we moved to the uk and it didnt start for the first 11 months...

Have you tried a different food it could possibly be a grain allergy

We have changed his food but the vet thinks it more like something from the garden, hopefully we will get some answers soon.

Well it is supposed to be spring, and it could be a grass like allergy. Search the old posts on here for the topics on allergies, how some people used piriton antihistamine, but with your vets approval for now since you've got other medication.  Poor lad, it must be sore.

The strange thing is he didn't have anything wrong last summer at all and that was his first summer here since leaving Spain, this started at the end of last year first with what looked like a lump on the back of his front leg and then on his head which at first felt like little bumps until I started cleaning with hibiscrub on the vets advice and found it was like a rash of little red sores. Then it started on his nose.  I just feel a sorry for him because he is such an angel, so good tempered when have to clean the areas and put cream on unlike Louis who won't let us do anything to him. Will have to wait for the first blood test result and then see where we go from there but looks like it could be long and drawn out as so many things he could be allergic to.  I even though carpet as our house n Spain was tiled floors but as it started nearly a year after we moved back that seems unlikely.
