Zak - grass seed - back in surgery
« on: August 05, 2008, 10:19:55 PM »
after having a grass seed removed from his foot last tuesday zak has been doing really well.
Unfortunately today he was back on three legs and his foot has really swollen up, higher up this time. :-\
Vet thinks that there could be another seed in there so tomorrow morning he is in for surgery :-\
Please send lots of healing thoughts his way.
I'm reall hoping that they find whatever is causing the problem.
so upset for my weeboy

How awful he has to go through another op. Hope they get him sorted this time. These grass seeds are a proper nuisance and they seem to be everywhere this year. I've removed at least 3 from each of my dogs after every walk.

well he's home, complete with lampshade again, and feeling very sorry for himself
vet said his foot and leg were a bit of a mess and he must have been in a lot of pain :'(
one swelling was so full of fluid it was ready to burst and there was lots of inflamation.
He has had to have three seperate cuts, two of which couldn't be stitched so have been packed with antibiotic powder :-\
Despite all this she has only found some hairs but no grass seeds. She says it could be the hairs which have caused this secondary problem but there's the possibility that there could still be something else in there.
He's on antibiotics and painkillers and back at vets on friday.

Only just caught this. Poor wee Zak (and you!) have really been through it lately!

I'd be giving him silica for the next three days to expel anything that's possibly still in there. Bramble's migrating grass seed went unnoticed when the vet went in to rake for it originally.

Sending the beautiful boy healing thoughts.  :-*

When he is you must come and play on my new dog walk!

I was wondering about starting the silica again. Think thats probably a good plan

I'm glad that Zak is back home and I hope that his leg heals well.
Its horrible seeing them so ill and then having to leave them at the vets!
