Alfie is poorly
« on: January 24, 2009, 03:37:13 PM »
Alfie vomited all through the night last night, with diarrhea this morning. He is very lethargic and has literally lay on my lap all day.  :'(

I have tried chicken and rice but he just wont eat. Even the Prokaline which in the past he licks off my finger, he turned his nose up.  :-\ I did manage to pop some on his tongue, and have just sat on the kitchen floor to encourage him to drink some Lectade which I had in. Is there anything else I should be doing

He wont drink water but will drink the Lectade so I know he is hydrated (well he is now, he has only just drank some)  ph34r The vet is my next port of call, if he hadnt touched the Lectade I would have phoned sooner.

I wouldn't worry about feeding him, just make sure he is hydrated and keep an eye on his gums. Obviously if he doesn't improve call your vet. Hope the little man is soon feeling better.

Thankyou.  :luv: His gums are ok, I have been a little obsessive doing obs on him, poor thing  :'( They just look so sad dont they, and Alfie being quiet is not right as anyone who has met him would agree. I will keep vigilant.

Wot she said.

If his tummy's upset, you're probably best starving him for 24hrs and then trying a little chicken and rice. Just keep him hydrated.

Hope he's better soon. x

Get well soon Alfie!
Try some honey in warm water as an addition to Lectade

Aww poor Alfie.  I would just do the hydration thing too Patsy.  I would also change the chicken to fish as that seems to be a lot more kindly to bad tums (with my lot anyway).  I always syringe 15mls every half hour with Kali as she stops drinking when she is unwell or she drinks too much in one go and sicks it back ::)

Poor Alfie, hope he's back to his asbo ways soon.

Charley vomited the other morning - in the early hours - and was rather lethargic. He didn't eat anything, but next day he was right as rain.

I'm sure Alfie will be fine tomorrow.  See the vet if he isn't.

Hope Alfie feels better soon. :-*  I would definitely try and starve him for 24 hours and then offer him some chicken and rice.  As long as he is getting fluids, it won't hurt him to go without food for a while.  Will he suck an ice cube?  If you are still worried, I would phone the vet. ;)
