Skinny Boy, bit concerned
« on: April 06, 2009, 03:09:05 PM »
Lemmy weighs about 11.7 kg not ultra light I know, but he is so skinny, there is absolutely nothing to him, he is perfectly normal in every way, runs, plays plenty of energy, but he dosent EAT, Ive tried so many different foods the only one he will actually attempt to eat is Butchers tripe mix with mixer added even then he is only eating half a tin a day, I cant get him to eat any more. he is not treat orientated either, im beginning to get a bit concerned, he is being castrated tomorrow so im going to speak to the vet, Im gonna pop a couple of pics up to see if anyone thinks im worrying unnecessarily, they are not brilliant but does show his sides  :-\

I know you sould be able to feel their ribs but I can see his, and his sides dip in aswell  :o

How old is he? Rufus looked like that until he was 2. Also a fussy eater. He has made up for it since! he used not to be food orientated which made training tricky. He is still particular and will not eat most dog treats, but adores liver stick. He is 4 now, and I have to watch his weight. Don't worry, he looks lovely.

he looks perfect weight to me ;) i can clearly see the shape of Jarvis' ribs, so long as you can't see the individual ribs then he's perfect. ;)
Owned by Jarvis (Cocker), and Lucy (Cavalier).

He looks chunky compared to Brie  ph34r
She is 8.9kg and i can see her ribs, hip bones and spine. I would ideally like her to weigh more but she eats like a horse and is sooo busy she burns it all off.
I really wouldnt worry about his weight.
I would get tough with him at meal times though and put food out for 10 mins then lift it until his next meal if hes not eating it.
I know better than my dogs do which foods are good for them so they eat what i choose for them, I dont play about swapping foods  ph34r ph34r

He looks good to me  :D Depending on his age, some puppies go through a very gangly, skinny phase. (think 13 year old boy who is all arms and legs, knees and elbows  :005:) Neutering may also help him put on weight.

You may well find that his appetite increases after he's been castrated. That certainly happened with William, who was a very fussy eater when he was a puppy. He's just a dustbin now!

He looks fine to me too, that's the sort of shape I like my dogs to have. If you put him and Rodaidh beside each other they'd be a very similar shape although Rodaidh's more muscular (but he is about a year older).

I think he's just going through a growth spurt - Jarv was thin about this age and then he started filling out and putting muscle on from about 13 months  ;)
