Advice : Hattie chewed a tick
« on: July 05, 2010, 11:15:41 AM »
Hattie was playing this morning and started to chew on something, then blood was comming out of her mouth, i tried to have a look but could not find anything, so i went back to were she was playing and found a CHEWED TICK :020: So now I'm panicking, its legs were still moving but its body was chewed up.  Is there anything i should do as i know they can carry decease.  She was frontlined last week.  Now I'm panicking.

Since she spat the tick out and didn't ingest it, I can't see that there'd be a problem.

You could always give your vet a quick phone call, if you need reassurance.

Even if she swallowed it I doubt there would be a problem.

We have had the same problem..haveing just got back of our holidays in Scotland we found(When we got back) five ticks on both are dogs three on Cindy and two on peggy...Peggy has two little tiny lumps ware i have manage to pull of the ticks off(she also chewed one of that we did not notice on her(to no affect with her)Took her to the vets on Saturday all the vet said was to keep an eye that it gets no bigger(Cost 43 pound including front line just to make sure there are no more hidden else ware)...With Cindy notice after bringing Peggy back from the vets on Saturday that Cindy has a hot spot on her just below ear (back to the vets this morning) after another 48 pounds this time the vet shave the fer from around the hot spot and has put some cream on her and also tablets to take twice aday....(Thought it mite have had some thing to do with the ticks she had)There is a disease called Lyme(spelling if wright or not) that dogs and humans can catch from ticks (but very rare)so i would not worry to much about it....Chris

Well i have given her a really good check over and found another 3  :o its the first time i have ever seen one, they are disgusting, although i have been checking her i did think i would easily find them but now relies they kind of hide. She does have a lump on her leg where i think the one she chewed may have fallen off so i will keep my eye on it, we are going the vets on Wednesday for her boosters so if its still there i will get him to have a look. off now to hover all around the house again. :005:  Thanks for all your replies.
