Which wormer?
« on: December 06, 2010, 06:21:38 PM »
I wormed my two girls regularly from pups with Drontal, I dont seem to be able to find any at the local PAH (cheaper than vets) but have noticed that they dont seem to sell it now? as it been displaced by another wormer? anyne know or suggest?
The are due (overdue even) worming asap so waht would you recommend as a broad spectrum wormer(dont think we have any specific problems here)

I use Milbemax too, but you have to get it from your vet.

I have always used Drontal Plus for my two girls.  I know that it doesn't suit all dogs but my girlies have never had a problem  :D  I buy mine on- line.

I prefer Millbemax for Alfie, as it covers lungworm (and heartworm), which the others don't.

A silly question but just wondered how you buy Milbemax from the vets?  Do you have to have an appointment and then a prescription to buy it or do you just pop in and buy it over the counter?
I have always used Drontal as I didn't want to have the phaff (and expense) of an appointment.
My girls have never had a problem with Drontal but it doesn't hurt to look at alternatives.  ;)

HI

I just pop into the vet and buy milebax over the counter, don't need to see a vet or pay for appointment.  I pop Drummer on the scales, and they give me correct dosage.

My vet does a special offer, where by you buy 3 dosages and get the 4th free, so that's him covered for 12 months.

Milbemax for ours and we get it from the vets. We just go in and give their names and ask for worming tablets, no appointment needed  xx

Excellent info, must ask my vet for this one.

They are currently recommending Advantage and Drontal to cover fleas and worms - I think it is over medicating as Advantage covers fleas, and some worms including heartworm, but not all worms.  Drontal covers the ones that Advantage doesn't, but there is a lot of overlap and I'm not happy about that.

Instead, milbemax and Billy No Mates, I think!

Yes! - it says on the CSJ website that you can use Billy No Mates (the herbs in a tub) for both dogs and cats.  They also do a Billy No Mates tincture that they say is ideal for cats, it says 10 drops per day, and it can also be given to rabbits, it says.

I wish they'd do one that would deal with worms.
