Synoquin ? And other suplement advice.
« on: December 28, 2011, 08:34:34 PM »
Hi Im not sure if this should be in feeding or health. I'm looking for advice on supplements which I have tried to look into on a few occasions but I find it all a little confusing  ph34r
As most of you will know Dennis has recently had a second surgery on his spine , I thought about supplements after the 1st surgery and was basically told it was pointless by the vet , now having gone through this a second time , providing it isn't going to do any harm to him I'm more than happy to waste my money if there is the slightest chance it will do some good.
Today Dennis was discharged from his specialist and is doing very well , I spoke to a very lovely vet and asked him if there was anything he could suggest that may help ( as we know that Dennis has another 4 discs that could potentially go at any point as they are dry) he suggested that we could try synoquin and he went and got me some.
Each capsule contains       glucosamine 225mg
                                    Chondroitin sulphate 175mg
                                    N-acetyl-d-glucosamine 25mg
                                    Ascorbic acid 25mg
                                    Zinc sulphate 15mg
Is there anything else anyone could suggest to go along side these ?
Or anybody know anything about the contents list and if it is any good?

I hope you don't mind me posting about this again as I did mention it in the Dennis thread , I just find it difficult to take in  ph34r and I do know that other people were interested so I thought it would be good as a separate thread.

Thanks for taking the time to read this
Maria x

I haven't ever used this, but the ingredients all look useful. :)

Glucosamine and chondritin are well documented for helping with joint problems. Its good to see that there is zinc alongside the ascorbic acid (vitamin c) as you need zinc to be able to absorb vitamin c properly.

Dennis' little body will be going through a lot of repair at the moment, the extra vitamin c and zinc can only support that.

When Archie was recovering from his hip operation we also made sure he had extra protein and calcium (mainly in the form of raw chicken wings).

The only other thing I'd add, is that the hydrotherapy was invaluable to Archie, but he did need some extra calories afterwards (much as I do if I've been swimming! ;))

Hope this helps :)

Synoquin is what Maggie has been on since her elbow op when she was one, also recommended by her specialist.  I think there are several very similar products on the market but I've kept with that as it seems to work for her.  You can source it online a lot cheaper than you would've got it from the vet as well which helps keeps the cost down.
Between that and the hydro which I intend to just keep doing now hopefully I can manage her elbow arthritis and back...

I thought Zinc was useful in vitamin A distribution but I could be wrong.  This is what I intend to get for Lyla http://www.poochandmutt.com/products/mobilebones/.  I use their Bionic Biotic and find it quite good so I will use the Mobile Bones too.

Is there anywhere that tells you how much of each ingredient is in the mobile bones ?

I've heard good things about Synoquin.

We sell the Mobile Bones (I've had great results with the Bionic Biotic too for mine), GO4 (a pure glucosamine product) and also Cetyl M - all of those have good resales which tells me that the purchasers are getting results from them.  Cetyl M is probably our best seller of the supplements and the boss tried it recently not expecting to see any immediate results... she was amazed how quickly it seemed to be taking affect though
