spots after shooting
« on: January 22, 2012, 08:19:31 PM »
Hello

I was just wondering if anyone has had the same problem as my dog is having.
After a day shooting my cocker comes up with small white spots on his chest we do go through brambles I did put vasaline on him which seemed to help but this seems to have stopped working now.
The spots seem to last about 3 days then seem to flake off he will lick the night after the shoot then seems to leave then alone.
I was just wondering if anyone know what I could put on his chest to help this.

Thank

Dave

What about the camoflage jackets by the likes of avery and jack pike. They have an area on the chest to protect against brambles (should that be the cause). They cost around £25-£35.

Lulu gets the same but in her stomach. We always put a dab of germolene on them and it seems to work

they'd be shredded after 1 shoot  ;)

Realistically no working dog should wear anything while they're working.

These jackets are designed for working dogs who go retrieving on shoots and I do have the Jack Pike one for Bronte so I know its well made and it really is a tough panel on the chest area.

sorry of the same opinion as Helen. When the cockers are going in such dense cover they can easily get hooked up on collars and clothing.

I only ever see dogs wearing coats between drives - I've never seen a dog working with any kind of coat on, even one allegedly designed for this purpose.

I personally would not use one on a working dog -  as Steve says the cover can be very dense.

These are what I'm talking about. They are made of neoprene 3-5mm thick and have on their chest an area which is to stop brambles digging into dog.
