I've been looking to buy an SLR (see other post), however OH's brother is getting rid of his D90, I am just wondering is it a decent camera, will it do plenty? (i.e. I won't be too restricted), are there any downsides to the D90?

I love my D90 :luv: :luv: :luv:
It is wonderful camera, a real classic.
I love the fact that the buttons for changing the settings (shutter speed, aperture) are on the camera, rather than inside the menus.
I would say snap it up if I were you ;)
The downsides are that there are newer models but the D90 does everything I need. :luv:

Does it have a motor inside for auto-focusing? OH said it did, but then he's assuming?
So long as the camera takes decent photos then I'm ok :)
He's selling the camera body and these 2 lenses - Nikon 50mm and a Sigma 17-55mm (whilst they aren't really what we need as such, so long as they will take outdoors photos then we'll be able to have a good play with it).

The Nikon 50mm is a good portrait lens but you may find you need a longer lens as well to capture your cocker at a distance ;)
Hope you get a bargain. ;)

We'll need a longer lens, but so long as we can play with it and get the hang of it and then buy what we need it should be ok :)

I recommend you read this

He does have his critics, but I found his guide very good ;)

Without reading it all/in detail (I'm at work) it seems pretty good, thank you :)
