Photo cataloguing recommendations

I'm starting to get rather a large collection of digital images which are pretty much catalogued by date.

Does anyone have any recommendations/software that is good (and simple  ) for cataloguing digital images as I would like to start referencing them in  a  better way so that it will be easier to find particular images.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated (before the collection becomes too large)

Have you tried Google Picasa? You can download it for free. It might be worth giving it a go to see if it meets your needs before splashing out on expensive software

You can do some great montages as well with picassa - I use it for my posters for the rescue and park group
