Graphic Tablet - anyone used one?
« on: June 24, 2007, 06:42:06 PM »
I was looking at a graphic tablet for my son.  Many of you know he has ASD but one of his passions is designing robots and the like and draws quite involved pictures.  I thought it might be nice to combine this with his love of computers and wondered whether he'd be able to use a graphic tablet to design, with a pen, onto the computer screen.  Problem is I haven't a clue whether this is the sort of thing that a tablet can be used for although I've seen them linked with reviews about drawing.  Don't want to spend a fortune and saw this which is small but could do the job http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009H7XAY/ref=ord_cart_shr/202-9771802-1128646?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

So has anyone used one, how easy are they to use and can you recommend one?

My sisters both have one for intensive graphic designing and they seem brilliant, I don't know the make but can find out for you if you like.

They are very good for art work etc, the larger the working area the better (and the more they cost)

If they do what I hope, I don't mind paying a bit more and there's loads on Ebay once I know what I'm looking for.  Any suggestions on a make would therefore be useful  ;)

I use one from Argos that cost about £40 (made by Trust), but have heard the Wacom ones are even better (and can be picked up from ebay as can be more expensive to buy).

I also find the mouse a bit more difficult to use on the one I have (mine came with mouse and pen) so tend use the pen all the time instead of the mouse now for most things (whether its drawing related or not) I do on the PC as its more comfortable.

I got one manufactured by Genius.  Didn't use it for long tho.

They are reasonably priced now - around 40 - 50 mark.
