Typing problem

This isn't a computer problem really but is there any way that you can type fractions without it looking like this ?.  2 1/2  say for two and a half

Alt plus 0189 ... ½ ( Using the numbers on the righthand side of your keyboard, not the ones above the letters )

Doesnt word automatically convert your fractions ?  (mine does)  or is this just on Forums and the like ?

you could also go into format font and select super script.
