Ingrowing eyelash
« on: August 11, 2004, 11:42:53 AM »
My parents blue roan has had a watery runny eye for a while, first they thought it might be pollen related but the vet has suggested that it may be an ingrowing eyelash - has anyone else experienced this?  The vet is suggesting surgery to remove the eyelash.

Many thanks,
MPG

Distichiasis can be a problem in Cockers.
This is when eyelashes grow from the margin of the eyelids & irritate the eye.
Sometimes they can be plucked out but will re-grow.
Alternatively they can be surgically removed, or electrolysis & cryotherapy (freezing them out) can be used.
If left they can heighten the risk of conjunctivitis & corneal damage.

Thanks Kim, will keep our eye on it (excuse the pun!) and hopefully we won't have to go down the surgery route.  Best wishes, Melissa
