Everyones nightmare. Sounds daft but we have noted a lump on gemma's chest. We couldn't decide whether it was a titee.  Hers don't seem to go in a orderly fashion. Been on suspect titee watch for about fortnight. Anyway trip to the vets booked for Tuesday as she now has a definate lump. She is 11 now so getting on.. Fingers crossed its nothing..

Oh Min

Hope all is well with Gemma - not ever having had a little girlie can't help, Ollie has lumps a plenty, old age is the pits, says me still trying to control fits of coughing 2 weeks post covid.

Take care Julie

Thanks people. It's sad watching them get old. The ginger ninja now has a "frosty tinge" to her face. She has a limp when getting up and was unable to jump up on our bed Yumove helped that. So at least she will get a health check early now instead of when it's jabbee time.. Where has the last 10 years gone 😭

It flies by, doesn't it.  Fatty lumps seem to be a thing for cockers, so fingers crossed it's just that and it's no harm getting a wee MOT.  :luv:

Fingers crossed Min! Do keep us posted! Yes, watching them age is heartbreaking, Humphrey‘s only just turned 7 but his back injury’s put years on him, he’s like an oldie 😢.
Sending  :bigarmhug: and positive vibes!!   :luv:

UPDATE
On vet check, it's not good news. It is a mammary lump. It is small and vet was prepared to wait until we all come back from holibobs before deciding what to do. We go Aug 8th with Gemma. Anyway, am not prepared to wait. Removal Operation  and x rays etc booked for 28th July which gives us some recovering time before we go. Its early days, could be nothing but still am so sad.

My Stevie had a mammary lump detected when she was about 11. The vets wanted to do a mammary strip but I said no.  I didn’t want to put her through such an invasive operation at her age.
The lump did grow but just the lump but it never affected her, she didn’t know she had it and she continued to enjoy her quality of life and I was blessed with having her for another 3 years. :luv:   I am not telling you to go down my route as you have decided on removal but just relaying my experience.  Its a risk not to operate but also a risk to operate.  I would make the same decision if I had to though.
Good luck for 28th.

Sorry to hear that Min. I can understand how you’re feeling but you‘ve wasted no time so hopefully it‘ll all turn out well and Gemma will have got over the op enough to enjoy her holiday, where no doubt she‘ll be given lots of extra fuss and cuddles.
Sending lots of  :bigarmhug: and positive thoughts your way and Humphrey sends an extra tail wag to Gemma. Keep us posted!!

Not the news you wanted to get, I'm sorry.  On a positive note, you have found it while it is still small.  I can understand why you booked the op now, and I really hope all goes well for Gemma  :luv:

Sorry to hear this. If I were in your shoes I would do the same thing, act swiftly. If you didn't you probably wouldn't enjoy your holiday anyway. We'll keep fingers and paws crossed for a quick recovery and a happy outcome.

Thanks friends for the good wishes. Gemma always had a odd looking titty. That's why we were able to pick up on the change. 10years of wondering  is it, isn't it.. It was measured at 1.6 so is still small but the growth has been quick. Gemma only weighs in at 9kg. The reason why we have decided to move on it was to cut down on anaesthetic. It would have been one lot for xrays, bloods and biopsy then another dollop if it needed removing.   This way its removed then examined. Now to get some printer ink as mine has dried up so can access claim forms

I think that is very wise, and personally, I would want it gone as soon as. Good luck with the forms!

Little soldier is now home and sleeping. On pre op tests they found a liver enzyme problem which we had to decide whether to go ahead with lump op. Possible cancer threat outdid a liver glitch. All other results and x rays where of no concern. However, mast cells have been mentioned and she has got some meds to help bring inflammation down, also they should help curb the enzyme problem.. Short toilet walks and NO excitement (fat chance).. She will have complete rest until holibobs..  At least purse didn't have major trauma

Min - not sure what all this means - but they have said meds will help inflammation, so sounds hopeful

Main thing is your girl is home and receiving the best loving care and rest for her holibobs.

: :shades: the liver enzyme high count, they have put dpwn to her having inflammation in her mouth, gums. The antibiotics for her operation recovery should also help the mouth inflammation and so get the enzyme count down. I BELIVE   :shades:

Main thing is, the op is over, and the munchkin is home and snoozing.  Good luck with the keeping quiet thing, that will be interesting!  Hopefully the liver enzyme thing is not an issue, but at least now you know and they can do something about it.  So glad it is done now.  Large glass of something delicious required for you.

Nothing ‚s ever straightforward with cockers is it?  :lol2:
It does sound positive though, so lets hope the little lady will be an obedient patient, rest and relax and be fit and recovered by holibob time! Sending  :bigarmhug: to you both ! X

How is Gemma doing now?
Title: Re: Lump found
Post by: MIN on July 31, 2022, 10:01:31 AM
Post op plus a couple of days Gemma is being Gemma  :luv: At her check up the scar is looking very red and angry. They are a bit concerned about Mast cells. They were also concerned about them pre op. She is on antibiotics, metacalm and antihistamines. We have another check up Friday and should have biopsy results then. She has a medical suit to wear and I have purchased a couple of tee shirts for her to wear on holibobs..
It been a trying week with gemma's op, been to the vet with my mums dog, had to let her go to the bridge in the end. All we needed was possible mammary cancer. But we are hopeful it will be just a lump.
Thanks for all the thoughts and wishes. Gemma is taking it like the grand old lady she is :luv:

It has been a very difficult week for you.  I am very sorry about your mum's dog, that is a huge loss for her.  Glad Gemma is taking it all in her stride.  I really hope Friday brings positive news.

GUTTED
Gemma's biopsy is the worst news. High grade cancer growth of the spreadable kind. (didn't take it all in) Good news, they got a good clean clearance around it and the lump was small. Ongoing, is to keep regular checks to spot any other lumps as nothing at this stage medical can help.  :'(

So sorry to hear that Min, that‘s a real blow and certainly not what any of us were hoping for! What a good thing you followed your instincts though and got it sorted before you went on holidays otherwise you‘d be chewing yourself,  up on top of everything else. The outlook does sound positive and hopefully they‘ve caught it in time.
Sending lots of  :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: to you both, hope you can relax a little now and look forward to holibobs, there’s not a lot more you can do at the moment except spoil the patient but I‘m sure you’re doing plenty of that anyway!  ;).
Sending lots of healing thoughts, and wishing you all the best!

Don't know what's going on. Spotted another lump, bigger this time.. We felt it through her body suit yesterday, definitely wasn't there Monday.   Double gutted  :'( it's away from the previous op site so don't think it's related to that one

Min

I am so sorry to hear this - they get so many lumps and bumps when older. As it appeared so quickly it may not be related and vet will I am sure had a good check over.

Sending all my love to you all and cocker kisses to Gemma from Ollie ( who is 1 year and 7 mths past his diagnosis) .  So try and stay positive.

Another biopsy done for the 2nd lump as vet could not rule out cancer due to the type just removed. Sample did he said looked fatty so there is a glimmer of hope. Don't know what the little angel or us have done to have this hanging over us. That's a damper on the holibobs

update   Gemma's second lump is a fatty one. Possibly caused by trauma.
So we are back to full Spaniel action stations.   She had a brilliant holibobs  in Pembrokeshire. Despite the glorious weather she still managed a 7 miler ( complete with cool coat and me carrying all her other " walking requirements" that ensures she stays healthy in the heat .   :luv:   we are lucky with her as she is such a tiny light weight that if things get to much we can sling her over the shoulder and carry her  :005: not that it would happen, she has her street cred to think about.
