Message quotes
« on: February 04, 2007, 03:27:08 PM »
Being new, I'm not sure how to incorporate the quote box in a reply to someone.  I tried cutting and pasting in another reply, but that didn't seem to be the answer.  Can you help please?  I hope I won't be too much of a pain with too many questions!

when looking at the message you wish to quote from there's a "quote" button on the right hand side. Click on that and it opens a message box with the quote in place. You can edit the quote contents by usual delete etc if you don't want to use the whole message.

You can also create your own quote if quoting from another source by putting (quote) the text and (/quote) at the end - replace the ( & ) with [ & ] ie square parenthesis not round. and hey presto.

Seems a good place for me to ask my stupid question.

Being old (both on COL and in years) I am a bit ashamed to admit that although I have mastered the single quote, I have been wondering how you clever people do the double quotes. When I last tried it just cancelled out the first one! ph34r

Do your first quote as normal, then type your reply underneath it - then scroll down the page below the reply box to the posts before yours and select 'quote' on the subsequent posts you want to quote.

Michelle - all you need to do is click the quote button as normal, then use the delete button on your keyboard to remove the bits from the quote you don't want in your post.
