Poor little Maggie!
Just to let you know that my puppy (now 9.5 months) has had stomach upsets every couple of months since he was tiny (just diarrhea and the occasional being sick), but was always fine in himself - eating fine, drinking fine, happy otherwise. A couple of days on the chicken and rice and he was cleared up. The last time this happened though (during the snow) it didn't seem to clear up properly (after days of c&r) and so I called the vet nurse to ask if I should get his poo tested, just to find out if there was anything wrong. I got some sample tubes from the vet nurse, which then got tested, so I didn't even have to pay for the vet appointment - just to get the tests done (£82!). It turns out that he had a bacterial infection called campylobacter, so it was worth getting him tested (although he hasn't suffered anything other than occasional squidgy poos). He's been on antibiotics and earlier this week a follow-up sample was sent off to see if it had cleared up (will find out tomorrow or Monday if it's gone). I don't know if this is what he had before, but there are various infections that can linger and reoccur if they're not treated. He hasn't grown for the past few months and the vet nurse thought that the bug might have been preventing him from using the nutrients in his food to grow.
It might be worth talking to the vet or vet nurse about it before you go in - it makes more sense to go armed with poo samples! My vet is loathe to give out antibiotics without being sure it's a treatable infection (and quite rightly so), so the poo sample was very important in determining the way forward.
I'd suggest giving Maggie c&r for a few days and then gradually re-introduce the other food.
Sorry - this may not be very reassuring, but it might be useful. Let's hope it clears up on its own and doesn't come back.
