Internet Time Limit On Daughters Account?
« on: January 01, 2006, 12:41:37 AM »
Does anyone know how to put a 2 hour time limit on internet access?  I have windows XP and my daughter has her own account.  I'd like to allow her 2 hours a day but have no idea how to do it.  I've tried various help menu's with no luck so far.  I don't mind if it restricts me also as I don't think I'd need it  :D

She is a typical teenager and sits at this thing all the time.  I've tried to time her myself but I get the 'Catherine Tate' back

We had this with our daughter a while back.  She was an on an hours limit.  We found bribery, blackmail and corruption the only effective methods  ;)  :D

Good luck!  I know the Catherine Tate look well!  ;)

We haven't really hit this stage yet (it's on it's way!), haven't heard of anything other than the bribery option. Would be interested to know if there is something out there.

BTW - do you have the same limit on yourself, Debbie?

PS [/size]Steve has just said that he thinks Net Nanny will let you set a time limit. Might be worth checking out. He will do a bit of research for you, he thinks there might be some freebies out there. A good source for such things is www.download.com where you can get utilities for most things. Some free, some not. HTH :P

This looks like a good possibility for less than $10 (about £6)

Thanks Annette - I'll look into the Net Nanny thing.  I have no restrictions of course  :D but as much as I love COL - I don't think I spend 2 hours on it!

Sarah25 - how much does your Mum charge???? :P

Hi Debbie
I had this problem and ended up networking the net through to her bedroom.  I can now use my own pc, what she talks about for so long is beyond me.
'Bovvad'.... I know this well.

Hee hee!  I wish she would - then we would be tackling this together!

What on earth do you all talk about when you've been together all day at school?  God..........I must be getting old!  I sound just like my mum!

PS - still would appreciate some advice though  :)

Tell me about it!  At least its not the phone line which would cost big time!  My Becky has started many a conversation with the words 'this is random but......'.

My problem is the lack of conversation with her mum (i.e. me) and the total disregard for anything else the world revolves around.

Be honest - am I selfish - or generous for wanting to allow two hours a day on the 'interactive' box'?

This may be really controversial so feel free to tell me to bogg off and mind my own business - especially as I dont have kids and nor do I want any  (used to be a teacher but they were only 6 yrs old!!)

Why do you want to restrict her time on-line?  Is it due to cost or something else?  If its cost then fine put a restriction on it.  If its that you think she ought to be doing something else with the time she spends on line then I'm not so sure.

There are loads of things I really ought to be doing right now but instead I'm 'wasting' time on here.  I could be doing housework, catching up with the pile of work on my desk, cleaning the car, going to Tesco's - any number of things but I'm not.  Is it any different for teenagers.

My only proviso would be that homework HAS to be done before time is spent on MSN, but apart from that there are much worse things she could be doing than spending time talking complete cobblers with her mates

JMO - no offence intended ;)
