Well nor have I but I assumed Sharon had :005: Haven't you had a pop up message come up just before AVG updates telling you about updating to 7.5? I had one a couple of weeks ago so went off and downloaded the new version (which looks pretty much like the old version but is Vista ready apparently)

I used to have Norton and has nothing but trouble with it - my puter person, said it was like giving a runner a very heavy back pack and sending him on a marathon. He recommended AVG, and I've stuck with that - so far so good, but we'll see  ;).

Too scared to comment further because then I'd be guaranteed a virus  :o ::)

I just tried to load the new AVG free 7.5 version but get so far and then i get this message ...

Local machine: installation failed
    Initialization:
Error: Checking of state of the item file avgupdln.exe failed.
            File opening failed. %FILE% = "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgupdln.exe"
                Permission denied

Anyone got any clues?

Have you got the previous version of AVG and your trying to update to 7.5? if your upgrading, download the file from this page and follow instructions http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

Thanks Gilly - tried that and still got the same message  ph34r Do you think I should get rid of AVG completely and then install from scratch?  I'm just worried that I won't be protected!  I managed the upgrade at work with no problems so don't know whats going on with my home one  >:(

If you download the application, disconnect from the internet, run a virus check on your system with the old software and then de-install the old version and reinstall the new version, there's no way you can pick up any nasties  ;) Just make sure you don't plug the internet back in until you know the new software is working  ;)
