Insider tip! : I would recommend that IF YOU ARE WITH AOL - you install the connection without their software.  You see enormous speed increases.  Sure, you dont get to use the AOL keyword thing anymore, but who cares.  You'll have a connection so fast that you can browse for what you need.

AOL will definately tell you this isn't possible.  They are lying because they want you to use their intrusive software.  I've set it up like this for a half dozen people or so.

Trust me!!!!  It's worthwhile.

I've been with AOL for roughly 10 years too and any problems I've had have been minor and always corrected promptly.  OH hates it though, he uses Internet Explorer.

I'm with AOL but because I don't have a BT line, I can't get broadband  :'(  I refuse to go with Virgin as they cock my phone bill up every month  >:D

You basically use your connection details and set up a networking connection manually.  If you search google, you'll find lots of info on it.  Next time I go to my mates house, i'll take a note of his settings because it's been a while since I did anyones internet.

But do remember, AOL WILL tell you it's not possible.  I had this from two support techs until I got one decent one who was able to explain.  Just tell them you want to set it up without the AOL software.

Tiscali  :o  on the whole it is OK.  But when it goes down, you can be without connection for 3 or 4 days, very frustrating.   Very difficult speaking to them.  I find that if you phone the New Customer number and refuse to go off the phone they eventually connect you to somebody with a couple of brain cells.

I have BT at work, it is fast and never goes down (madly touching wood now )

I was with NTL but it switched to Virgin - no problems whatsoever!

Work (a small charity) is with Tiscali as it was cheap!  They have been nothing but a nightmare!  I have spent many a precious hour talking to someone who has English as a second language and just reads the script from beginning to end.  I would avoid them like the plague but that is just my opinion as I'm sure (gobsmacked actually) that someone is happy with their way of dealing with problems  :005:

It's a well aimed opinion Debbie.  Like I said earlier, it can take them a few months to issue your MAC code to move to another service.   >:(
