Tomtom and memory cards -arrrgggghhhh!
« on: May 22, 2008, 11:23:36 PM »
Hi all

Need technical boffin to stop me from going insane.  Tried tomtom support but online help useless and email support says 48 hours before answering!!

I've got a tomtom 520 music ed.

Have paid to download a map of western europe from tomtom.  Tried installing but it said not enough memory on device, didn't realise but the installation is 2000+MB and i've only got apprx 500MB internal memory (i think!) so zoomed off to argos and bought a 8GB memory card HDHC with card reader which tomtom says is compatible....

I've managed to copy and paste from the tomtom my current map and my tomtom will recognise it, but tomtom Home on my laptop won't.  It won't recognise it as an additional device on a card reader or in the tomtom itself...

I'm going on holiday on Sunday and i need it by then!  I've been on the laptop for 6 hours and still no closer to getting a map on my tomtom!

HEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP! PLEASE?

Great thanks!  it looks like many people have had the same problem - Tomtom advise that an 4-8GB card can be used when it can't despite reformatting and all sorts of technical stuff! £60 wasted!

Off to buy a 2GB card which i PRAY works (this is what everyone else with this problem seems to have done)

So more memory isn't necessarily better!

Appreciate your reply Robbie34 x

Glad you got it sorted.  It's a great site for anything to do with sat-nav.

I think you should be able to get your money back on the card at Argos. Unless memory cards are exempt??????
