Banging the kitchen door in the morning!!
« on: July 02, 2009, 10:59:33 AM »
Sweep has just started banging the kitchen door and whining a bit in the morning at various times 5.20am last sunday to 6.20 yesterday and 5.50 this morning.  But first a little background......

Sweep has always slept in the kitchen and we have never, never heard a peep out of her until now.  She has always quite happily waited until we went down to make a cuppa at whatever time but usually no later than 7am.  We are a bit puzzled by this behaviour now and wondering if anyone can throw any light on the issue.

A couple of weeks ago we had a bad thunderstorm in the night and Sweep was a bit distressed so OH went down and she spent the rest of the night with us in bed.  (Oh no I hear you say!!!) Anyway the next night and ever since she has been fine with her usual routine that is until last sunday morning.

OH woke up to hear Sweep banging on the kitchen door and because she doesn't usually make a sound obviously we went down to see if there was anything wrong.  He let her out for a wee and she shot up the garden at a rate of knots so we think perhaps a fox or something spooked her by coming right up to the back door and she heard it.

Anyway monday and tuesday mornings no problems at all.

Yesterday she woke us up and also this morning ( although OH says she went straight out and did a poo so perhaps she was desperate bless  :luv:

Anyone got any theories or is anyone else's dog doing strange things?

I thought of a couple of things

She's too hot
She needs to out for wee desperately as she's drinking more water than usual and is letting us know  :luv:
She's just seeking attention

She goes to bed with no problems and doesn't bang the door at night
Anyone got any theories or is anyone else's dog doing strange things at the moment?

And the million dollar question how can we stop this?

your explinations coupled with the light mornings seem quite possible.
She will also learn however that if she bangs on the door then it gets your attention.
Dogs repeat behaviour that works. ;)
