Title: Enforced seperation
Post by: ips on June 30, 2021, 05:10:34 AM
Hi guys.
I was rushed to hospital 11 days ago (not covid) I hope to be home at the weekend. Until now my main concern has been survival however now that hopefully I am back on track I am wondering how if anything this seperation will have effected my relationship with eze. I didn't even get the chance to say "see you later" anyone got any words of wisdom ?

Sorry to hear that Ian!! Hope you’re ok and make a speedy recovery.
Presumably Eze has been at home while you‘ve been in hospital? To be honest, I wouldn‘t worry too much, whenever I‘ve ever had to leave any of my dogs they either sulked for a couple of days (one time the kennels  were pretty grim ) or they were a bit clingy but soon settled down again. Obviously depends on how fit/mobile you‘ll be when you get home, but I would try to stick to your old routine as much as possible and carry on as if you‘d only been away for the day. You and Eze have always worked as a team, I reckon  she‘ll just be over the moon to have her other half back!
All the best, take care and, as they say here, Gute Besserung!  :luv:

Thank you Jayne
Yes she been at home with Lynn, she hasn't said much about how she has been and i haven't really asked as I had enough to cope with without the extra concern so thought it best not to know at the time, hope that doesn't sound selfish but self preservation is a strange thing. I do know that she is currently on the bed with the Mrs with my slipper 😁

Not at all selfish!! You’re  more use to Eze when you’re fit and well and worrying about something you can‘t change does no good at all. Take care of yourself!   :bigarmhug:

Good grief Ian - hope you are on the mend and back home soon - if there’s anything we can do, please just say.  We have no problem driving up to do some mowing, or other jobs,  if it gives Lynn a break and puts your mind at rest.

Eze will be very pleased to see her best mate and more importantly will be the best behaved, most attentive, hard working, fast retrieving dog you’ve ever seen!  For around 3 days then it’ll be back to normal  ;)

Get well soon - wishing you a full and speedy recovery xx

Hi Ian - hope you’re on your way to being healthy?!

I’d say don’t worry about your relationship with Eze being affected. You’ll still have that bond you always did. She’ll just be over the moon to see you again when you get home 😊. I brought my 2 show cockers over from South Africa (a long time ago now!) and they stayed with a friend in Berlin for 8 months as an alternative to quarantine. I had hoped to visit them a few times before they came over to the uk, but wasn’t able to. I worried hugely about the impact on them and our relationship after such a long separation. As it turned out, particularly with one of them - the bond was actually stronger after the separation.

You may find eze may be a bit more clingy/ Velcro-dog for a few days after you get home.

That's most kind of you Jayne, I think all is in hand at home but thank you.

Yes I am on the mend, just a few more things to go through and should be home 🙏

Gosh, I am sorry to hear you have been so unwell, good to hear you are on the mend now, and hopefully will be home soon.  Take good care of yourself.  As for Eze, I reckon she will be your shadow and your nursemaid.  I used to go and stay with my Mum for a week or so, leaving our two dogs with OH.  They were hyper when I got back and stuck like glue for the first few days.  Happy memories.  Look after yourself and don't worry about Eze, she will be fine, they are adaptable wee souls.

Sorry to read you have not been well, but so glad you are on the road to recovery.

I was in the same situation a couple of years back, had to have emerg'y op and having no one close enough had to quickly put dogs  in kennels, I don't think it affected our relationship in a bad way - and when they came home they were models of obedience for at least a couple of days -  ;)  but thankfully all things got back to normal slowly.

Can't offer any help - but if these cyber wishes work you should be feeling better soon.   :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

Oh goodness Ian what a shock....glad you are on the mend.

You sound like me when rushed into hospital about 8 years ago.....was more worried about Ollie missing me as he has always been like velcro with me.

When I was unhooked I went down to car park and had a cuddle and short reunion cocker kisses a plenty and we were both reassured, sadly covid will have put that sort of thing on hold.

I am certain Eze will be 100 per cent the same when you are home - hoping it is soon

All the best from me and Ols

I am genuinely touched by all the well wishes sent my way by my COL friends, I truly appreciate it. It's been a heck of a two weeks, I had to have a very unpleasant procedure this morning but all went well, I am hopeful to be home for weekend but nothing certain yet. Will keep you posted, many thanks once again 🙏🙏

Hi, that’s brilliant news, really glad it went well. It sounds like you’ve had a terrifying two weeks. I am so hoping to read that you get home this weekend and are not in too much pain. I suspect you’ll have a very excited Eze leaping all over you and then the mandatory face wash!

Bad news. Nothing is going to comfort her until you’re home. It’s only a few days BUT they are going to drag. Is there much to do in there and can wifey visit? I’m not sure what the hospital rules are since Covid.
Hopefully you find out early on Monday morning.

John.

Just a note to say that I’m aware Ian is now back at home and I suspect is a) puppy blocked from using technology to pop an update on here, b) more than a little tired from his stay in hospital plus needing to recover and c) spending some much needed time with his wife and daughter.

Get well soon, Ian and please pop an update on for all of us when you can,

Jayne

UPDATE
thank you so much for everyone's concern and best wishes it really has made a difference to me. On getting home eze went mad for a bit but then slept for most of the afternoon, evening, night and most of today. Apparently she has been spending more time than usual in her crate while I have been away plus sitting in the hallway staring into space, presumably unsettled generally and not relaxing at all, one assumes that on my return she gave a sigh of relief and relaxed to the degree of getting some serious sleep in....lol.

As for me I am pleased to be home however I have a long recovery hopefully to full health (your God or God's willing) fyi long story short I contracted a quite rare respiratory illness (not covid, or smoking related) and was actually more unwell than I realised according to my consultant. It was all rather scarey and I am man enough to admit so, ten days on oxygen 15 days in hospital ain't no fun.....picture from just now, I still look rough but at least I am home 😁🙏

Not been on the forum for a few weeks, and I am delighted to see that you are home.  Eze looks very content to have you back where you belong.  You have had a rough time of it.  Take it steady, and build up gradually.  With some proper home cooking you will soon gain a bit of weight.  I hope you are doing well.

Hi everyone.
Update..... now finished a 4 month course of steroid and some other stuff to stop the stuff that is fixing me from making me ill, had various blood tests and lung function tests etc etc. Consultant now happy that infection has cleared and no sign of any ireprable damage to the lungs I have a follow up consultation in a few months but seems like we are out of the woods so to speak. Not feeling anything like right yet and I expect quite a long haul before I am so apart from a few small days on my syndicate I have pretty much cancelled the whole game season for now. Done quite a bit of research into the condition as not had that much for the medical folk and all I can say is do not Google any ailment you may have 🙄

Thanks for the update Ian, glad to hear you’re on the mend, it must be big relief to know the infection hasn’t caused any long term damage and hopefully by the time the next season starts you’ll have made a full recovery.
Although these sort of set backs are really something we can all do without,  they do make us make us appreciate the pleasure of just being able to be  out and about with our dogs. You and Eze have a lot to catch up on, as do Humphrey and I, once he‘s fit again! I bet she‘s been a great little nurse  though  ;)
We‘ve missed the videos, so you need to get back on your feet soon!  :luv:
All the best, take care of yourselves! x Jayne ‚n Humph

Hey mate, just seen this post about you being poorly. So glad you are on the mend and nurse maid Eze is taking extra special care of her dad. Can not think of anything worse than having to stay indoors in the winter when the wind is howling, the rain is lashing down turning the six foot of laying snow into mush, when you could be outside with your best mate and a couple of pheasants in hand.
I too have had a serious mishap, snapped my beating stick.  :shades:  :005: best wishes

Update
Had a lung function test couple of weeks ago and the results were "acceptable" so it seems that we are out of the woods for now although someone should have told my body because it's fare to say that I don't feel 100%,yet ...having said that I am feeling well enough to do my syndicate days every few weeks and I hope to do a few days beating if possible.....
PS
For those interested I contracted a very rare condition "acute hypersensitivity pneumonitis" to be more exact "aspergillosis" it was caused by the inhalation of fungus spores, I am fairly sure that I contracted it during a syndicate work day in one of our woods.....so be careful out there...we remain hopeful that the medication (massive steroid doses) has fixed it and that there is no lasting damage to the lungs although I don't feel fully fixed yet 🙄 all of your best wishes have meant a lot to me during my recovery so I thank you all sincerely 👍

Good gracious!! Its good that they managed to diagnose it properly, despite it being so rare, you‘ve obviously been in good  hands. I can imagine that your body isn‘t just coping with the physical effects of the illness, you‘ve undoubtedly taken a knock psychologically too, its a big shock to suddenly be confronted with a life threatening condition and the effects of that alone  shouldn‘t be underestimated.
Be patient with yourself, take each day at a time and, as we advocate when we‘re training pur pups, celebrate the progress on the good days and ignore the occasional backward step!  ;) It must be good to be out and about again though, even if somewhat limited.
(As Humph‘s physiotherapist said yesterday) , this time next year, it’ll hopefully all be forgotten!
Take care and keep us posted!  :luv:

Gosh, I didn't know that could happen.  I am pleased things are looking positive and you are able to be out and about.  It will take you a while to build your stamina back up and get your strength back.  Just take it steady, you will get there.
