Not sure if anyone can help, but if they can I woiuld be very grateful.
I am trying to remove the background from a photograph, with very little success, I hasten to add. I want to leave it white to put the image onto a canvas bag.
I have Adobe Photoshop Sarter Edition 3.0 or Photo Impression 5 to work with and I have just been trying to do it by erasing it. I know you can do it with layers, but Haven't a clue how.
This is the photo I am trying to do.

cant help at all but just wanted to say what a gorgeous photo of your dogs :luv:
-
Can't help Im afraid but I like it with the background :luv:
-
Annie, I could have a go if you want. If you make a duplicate layer then 'magic wand' it.
-
Can you not just use the lassoo(sp?) tool to cut around it then paste it as a new picture?
-
Thanks for all your suggestions, but I am totally computer illiterate, with the exception of using the internet of course. :005: I will have to have a look and see what a lassoo tool is. :embarassed:
I like the background too, if I could have sort of roughed it up a bit around the edges, I may have kept it, but it is too 'square'.

that's what I would do. ;)
-
Or if you like the background just soften the square edges with the airbrush tool?

Not perfect as done in a rush, using Serif Photo plus :D I will try and tidy it up later.

Oh Well Done Michelle!!! :shades:

Wow, you ladies are sooo talented. I am totally at a loss with anything like this. I think I need to get myself off on a course or something. I have been trying to do this all weekend. ::)
-
Or if you want soft edges.............

I like the soft edges, can it be done in an ovalish shape though rather than rectangle. I do love the background it was just too straight lines for what I want. I want it printing onto a canvas bag and also a t-shirt for a young girl at our ringcraft, who is totally in love with Amber. I know that is a bit cheeky, but I am amazed at what you ladies have done so far. :D

Gorgeous pic :luv:

Is this any good?

Wow, that is really good Michelle, can it be done without straightening the edges IYSWIM. If not that is fantastic and more or less what I was looking for.

I reckon you will have to print several more as "payment" to some of your helpers! ;) They are VERY clever.
And I love your photo.

I think I know what you mean Annie, but it would mean cropping off Archie & Jade's toes.

Oh and I did it with Microsoft Picture It! Photo 7.0 ;)

WOW, WOW, WOW......... :D :D :D THANK YOU. That is Perfect Michelle. I will be using that one for my bag. You are SOOOOOO...... clever.
:-* :-* :-* I have been trying to do this for ages. I think I need a decent photo editing program and a few lessons on how to use it. :shades:
-
You're welcome Ann, I am by no means a whizz on the pc but I have got used to resizing and modifying photo's. :D
Just make sure you post a pic of the bag when you've had it done. ;)
-
Looks stunning
Are you any good at removing bags from under eyes Michele? :005:
-
:rofl1: I could do with those removing too. :005:
-
I use photoshop and that is very good to use. Luckily I have it through work..
-
The best way i've found to do this, is to use Photoshops quickmask. You paint over the bit you want to remove then it changes to an outline and then you can just erase / paint / replace in the area. Unfortunately there is no perfect way though - because when you remove backgrounds, you'll get a 'halo' of colour or brightness around the subject (from the previous background).
-
Perhaps you could creat your own little section Simon - top tips for taking photos and using photoshop ;)
We have a digital SLR and I always tend to just use the standard settings, must start reading the books we have on it.........
-
:-) I did an extensive photoshop course - but im no professional. :-)
Although I did forget to mention there is a tool for 'feathering' an outline selection in PS. This helps eliminate the halo I was talking about!

I use photoshop with work, but have never been on a proper course, really need to spend a day or two looking into all the different tools and tricks :o)

There are a series of extremely excellent DVDs called Photoshop CS2 Total Training (I think the guys name is Deke McLennan). It's a very in depth series of training aids if you're interested in going the distance with your learning. Im not sure how expensive they are tho.
Link to Photoshop CS2 Total Training (http://www.totaltraining.com/prod/adobe/photoshopcs2.asp)
It says $149 for the DVD (3 dvd set) - but trust me on this, it's worth every penny if you're serious about learning PS2. I've not seen anything to match it.
-
Thought I would add a photo that I had "feathered" just so you can see what it is like, you can do more feathering though, and even change the colour of the feathered bit!

Photoshop CS2 vanishing point tool is great, It heals or clones the backgrounds away.
Tutorial is here: http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tutorials/tt-cs2/vanishing-point-tutorial.html (http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tutorials/tt-cs2/vanishing-point-tutorial.html) You need quicktime to view it.
