Nail Bed Infection
« on: July 31, 2006, 12:03:10 PM »
Hi

Fin has a slight Nail Bed infection which I have been struggling with to keep under control (been using Hibiscrub and an antiseptic powder), it has once again flared up.  The vet has suggested that the best course of action is anitbiotics which the dog is on for about 2-3 weeks.  I am  not a great lover of antibiotics especially for that length of time.

Has anyone on COL dog had a nail bed infection? or can anyone suggest an alternative treatment?, I have agreed with the vet to use a antibiotic cream first.

I also try and avoid antibiotics if I can.  I would try tea tree - maybe a wash or gel.  It is brilliant at drawing out infection.  You could also dab neat tea tree oil on the infected area - don't spread it around though!!  Hope it gets better soon  ;)
