What do you suggest for wet foods
« on: May 03, 2008, 12:14:51 PM »
We have a 16 weeks old cocker and have tried various dried and wet foods.  Cookie will not entertain dry foods so we changed to pedigree chum puppy, but she has a norty habit of eating her poo if she get the chance.  COL general site suggested we try an alternative wet food as PC is not the best and a lot of it comes out the other end as it went in and this could be making her norty habit worse.

She is quite a skinny puppy and her ribs are very easy to feel when you cuddle her.  She did not have the best start in life with her breeder and i know we are playing catch up to a degree.  The vet was very happy cos she is putting on weight but is still skinny.

Run out of food now so need to changer her asap really but want a good one.   Please Help

Good quality wet foods include Nature Diet, Nature's Menu and Nature's Harvest, all of these can be bought from Pets at Home and I think a lot of Tesco stores also do Nature's Menu as well. James Wellbeloved have also brought out a wet food although I haven't tried it. If you can stand the smell fresh raw tripe once or twice a week would be good for building her up or you can buy bags or blocks of frozen tripe in Pets at Home.

Thanks for your advice and excuse me for being thick but what are wet down burns.  First puppy and not familiar with all the lingo.

I think Tasha meant you can soak dry Burns food in water until it goes mushy (you can do this with any dry food) although Burns do a wet food now as well but it might be harder to find than the others mentioned.

Thanks to everyone for their advice it has really helped.  I got in touch with Natures Diet and they were brilliant.  They sent me some free samples of their product for Cookie to try.  I mixed it with her current food and she seemed to love it.  Yes being the doting parents that we are  :luv: we went out and bought her some and she is really enjoying her food and eating well.  Her poos are much better and less frequent.  and YES  she seems to have stopped turning back to EAT her POO.  We are also watching her like a hawk and using the distraction technique and rewarding her when she walks away.  :luv:

I was getting a little stressed out with it i have to say and owe you all much gratitude for your wonderful support and advice  :D

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou      ;)

I feed a few  :D Burns moist food, Tripe, Pedigree better by nature and the best on the market IMO Applaws. I stopped feeding nature diet as it gives Goose the runs  ::) but all the others seem to suit him fine.

Burns also do a wet food now as well - the Daxlet has the dry food but I think it is good quality so the wet should also be fine  ;)
