How on earth could I have forgotten....
« on: July 05, 2010, 10:44:49 AM »
Just how absolutely disgusting making liverbread is ??? I made it once for Glen when I was in new dog honeymoon period and nothing was too much for my little darling but had never made it again in over 3 years ...now I remember why.

That look....the smell....Oh God the smell...My house may never recover...I am going to have to move  :o :005:

Yes, I couldn't stand the smell either :020: so I make pilchard or tuna bread instead!  The things we do for our little darlings :005:
Both taken away from us far too soon. x  RIP Angels Odie & Archie, causing mayhem at the Rainbow, no doubt!

I must admit i have only made it once.....whilst reeching & trying not to be sick :embarassed: :020: The smell seemed to stay in the house for days.  :016: An experience i never want to repeat.  ph34r  My attempt was a complete failure & the bread was rock hard  :005: Oh & i broke the food mixer.  >:D  After all that the dogs looked at it in disgust, so it ended up in the bin.  ph34r

I saw and smelled liverbread being made once and it put me off making it for life :020:  Poor deprived mutts have to make do with scrounging it off other people on walks :005: I do make them tuna or pilchard bread every now and then though, it's much easier and less smelly.

Do you use the tins in tomato sauce? Freddie loves tuna bread but need a recall only treat. Do you put any other liquid in or just the sauce and egg? Do you put garlic in too? Sorry, it's just that the Willows Kitchen website doesn't seem to work any more - had it in my favourites but can't connect to it any more.

Pilchard Cake recipe:

2 cans of pilchard in tomato sauce - mushed up
2 eggs
1 crushed clove of garlic (optional)
grated carrot (optional but does bulk it out)
s/r flour - just add enough to make it similar consistency to sponge cake

pour into baking tray and bake in the oven at about 170 for 20 - 30 minutes (until cooked)

Cut it up and freeze in individual portions

Ok folks, got to hold my hands up to a couple of things. Livercake, I was told to put the ingredients in the blender, the liver got wrapped around the blades and the first thing I knew was when I smelt burning, it did the motor in! Second thing, tripe. Had some frozen from PAH and put it on defrost mode in the microwave. OH then warms his burger up afterwards...not too chuffed at his tripe flavoured burger!!! How was I too know!!!???  :005: :luv:

Oh Jenny that did make me laugh - tripe flavoured burger - sounds lovely :D

I do occasionally whach a bit of liver in the oven smothered in garlic and cremate it as treats :)

You guys are far superior to me with the cake lark  :005:

I'm going to have a go at this I think. Tali loves pilchards. Do you use the large or small cans of pilchards?

Does it cut up like tuna bread? Can I cook it in the microwave? One last thing - i use garlic powder in tuna bread for convenience, do you think this will work? thanks

I use two large cans of pilchards.
I don't add garlic as I don't like the smell  :005:
I have never used a microwave to cook it.  I just put it in a baking tray and then the oven.
It cuts up quite easily.  I put small potions into sandwich bags and freeze.
I use it for recall and my girls only ever get it on a recall to the whistle.  ;)

Well, I put up with it....anything for my girl (yeah, she's a spoilt brat  :005:) I can just about handle the smell of liver (I even eat it from time to time) but trying to clean the blender after its been contaminated with all that disgusting paste, is a job I'd really rather not do!!!

Never tried the pilchard bread, but have done tuna bread....Chloe prefers liver cake surprise, surprise  >:D
