What do your cockers weigh ?
« on: March 12, 2009, 09:23:15 PM »
Hi all,

Just out of interest i would like to know what your cockers weigh, as after Bentley was stripped recently me and OH thought he looked quite skinny... ph34r I have no idea what cockers should weigh for there sex and age..?

He's never been a great eater and i'm in the process of changing him from JWB Junior as he just has no enthusiasm towards food at all. Don't think he likes it. I've also not been sure if i have been offering the correct amount as i didn't know his weight. He is trying Orijen and with just a small % in his dinner tonight ate it all in one go so, so far so good............

I took him to the vets to be weighed this week and to get a wormer as its been 10 weeks since last one and the vet nurse checked him over and said he's an ideal size for his age and has ideal coverage on his ribs legs etc.

Bentley weighs 11.7 kilos and is 9 months.

So what do you cockers weigh and how old are they?

Molly is 11.2 aged 4
Honey is 11.7 aged 2

Honey is taller than Molly

They both look good - not fat and not skinny - I can see their waist line and feel their ribs!

Molo - 5 years old entire male - 13kg (ish)
Bonnee - 3 year old spayed female - 8 kg (ish)

As you can tell, there really is no such thing as the *right* weight for a cocker - as long as you can feel, but not, see their ribs, and they have a definite waist, then that's about right  ;)

Molo used to be heavier, as he was a lot more muscular, he has lost a lot of it, but will be building it up again over the next few weeks  ;)

Does it make any difference if they are spayed/castrated Rachel?

ETA and does it make a difference if they are show/working type too?

Weight gain is a common "side effect" of neutering - of course, it can be managed by reducing their calorie-intake and increasing exercise, but it can be more tricky to keep a neutered dog/bitch slim  ;)

This is why Brodie is a kilo heavier than her sister :shades:

William weighs 14.5kg and is just under 16 inches at the shoulder. He's almost 5 years old, is castrated and I think he's very fit and the right weight for his build and height. I have to watch his weight though, as he puts it on quite easily.

We were just thinking recently that Breagha looks so thin but she is just so active, she never stops!  She is only 9.5kg and is 18 months and spayed.

In my limited experience, I would agree with this regardless of whether its a working or show type. Chloe is nearly 11 months old, about 14" to the shoulder and weighs around 12.5 kilo. She's a solid wee girl and very muscular already, but she's not got an ounce of fat on her.

Agree with Rachel about *no right weight*   ;)

Biba is spayed ...10.7kg
Lola not spayed..11.5kg

Lola is the youngest (18 months) and 2 inches taller than Biba (nearly 3 years)  ;)
