Skinners Rough and Ready??
« on: March 16, 2007, 11:30:14 AM »

Baxter is on half and half dried/BARF diet

I picked up some Skinners at Crufts as the R&R is supposed to be good for fussy eaters as it's like a moist meaty muesli... and if you add water, develops a nice thick gravy.

Just wondered if anyone had tried it and had an opinion on it, is it a good food?  Am a bit alarmed that some of the kiibble bits are bright red though??  :o

Baxter seems to like it over 'boring uniform shaped kibble'  (He's on a half and half diet as I don't want him to not eat kibble if he has to stay with other people/kennels ever in his life and they can't feed BARF)

Not sure about what you are using, but i picked up the field and trial skinners also at crufts to try and early results look encouraging.
It is also cheaper than JWB which I feed normally.

Not sure how good it is but when we took Dagen in from the rescue he had really bad dandruff and runny poos the fosterer was feeding him Skinners I changed him to James Wellbeloved puppy and there was no change in his coat condition or runny poos then put him on a Barf diet and we haven't looked back ... I think Dagen would have been the same with any kibble tbh.

Other people who have used skinners have found it ok but it's not one I have used in the past so can't really give a personal comment.

How are you doing feeding half and half friends of mine do this and their dogs turn their noses up to the kibble now and they have to mix raw meat into it to make them eat some which I don't think is a good idea tbh

He gets one dry meal (half daily amount) and one BARF meal (half daily amount) a day... would love to go fulltime BARF as he obviously enjoys it more.  I'm sure I could do ready prepared meals for him if he had to stay elsewhere... hmmm... so I may switch.

I feed my lab and cocker skinners and they both love it  :D I was feeding them the health and vitality crunchy until recently, they now have field and trial duck and rice and both are doing really well on it  :D

I think Skinners is pretty good, I know a lot of owners of working dogs swear by it.

Phil Cooper who is the Scottish rep for Skinners (and I believe was at Crufts this year) is my best friends hubby.  He feeds all his dogs with Skinners so he must have faith in it as they are his babies ;)
