Food No No's?
« on: March 26, 2007, 11:17:50 AM »
Have just discivered this morning about not feeding my two grapes or raisins which I was inadvertantly doing  :o  I also know about gravy and chocolate but is there anything else I should be avoiding?

Also are there any food that is particularily good for them?

I also know about gravy...
Gravy?  I didn't know about that - I sometimes put some on his kibble.   :o

I knew about grapes, raisins and chocolate.

Since having Charlie, I've discovered that onions and garlic are toxic to dogs, as are potato peelings.

Also, I believe Macadamia nuts are - but as our Tesco seem to have stopped doing them (they were my fave!), that temptation won't be in our house!

I may be wrong but i think the problem with gravy is the salt content.

As far as i'm aware garlic is fine and kills fleas too....

According to a site I've just looked at, it's also due to there being onion powder in some packet gravies.

Thanks for the info about garlic - I thought onions and garlic were from the same plant family, but it appears they aren't.

The site I looked at also said mushrooms are toxic for dogs, and raw eggs.  I've never given Charlie mushrooms, but I sometimes mix a raw egg into his food - I feel bad now.  :(

The site says Marijuana may be harmful.  Well durr!

Thats ok, I had a bit of trouble finding it, its not that easy to find stuff, unless your pretty sure its there.

It is useful to know, and with loads of new members, can only help more people to re-question it !!

I was shocked when i read it.
