Cockers With Their Food
« on: April 14, 2007, 11:02:06 AM »
I noticed yesterday that Pepper would bring food from her bowl into the lounge to eat it - she's on Iams.  Charley does the same with his Frolic, and Benjie used to do it with his Frolic.   Many years ago my Beagle never did this and I've never noticed it with friends' dogs.

Is this peculiar to Cockers?

Lola who is 5 months old has done it since the day we got her.  We assumed that it was because she was low down the pecking order when all the puppies were together and this was her way of getting food and hanging onto it.

Penny always brings some of her food to her basket to eat, has done for quite some time now.

Not just cockers....! Jarvis eats at his food bowl and always has done, but Lucy my cavalier either takes a biscuit in her mouth or flicks it out of the bowl with her feet to eat in another room. ::) It takes her forever to eat a meal.
Owned by Jarvis (Cocker), and Lucy (Cavalier).

Molly used to do this when she was younger. I realised it was because when i'd put her food down i then went in to the living room and she was bringing her food in there so she was near me. I started to stand beside her while she was eating and it sorted the problem out!!

If Domino has something tasty like a chicken wing he will take it outside & eat it on the lawn & Spike will take a large bone to his bed to savour!!

Mac is the first of all my ECS ( over the years 5 of my own + 1 I looked after Mon.- Fri. for over a year) to do this.
When it's treat time, my adult dogs get a Frolic each and Mac gets a half. But if the Frolics have hardened - because someone forgot to seal the package properly >:D - Mac gets a whole one and he hightails it off to his bed to eat it.
I really am beginning to wonder whether it has something to do with the pecking order in Mac's litter!

Buddy doesn't travel with his food. It's not around long enough to travel far! ph34r
