We have a show type blue roan girl who is nearly 6 months. She is everything you could ask for in a cheeky cocker puppy and we wouldn't be without her but I can't believe how much she's changed in colour!!
Obviously when she was born she'd was typical white with a few black splodges, we visited her at 4 and 5 wks and we collected her at 8 weeks and her roaning was very obvious...well as the weeks have gone by she has got darker and darker!! From a distance now she looks black with a white/grey tail tip.
You can still see the white hairs mixed in her coat but I never expected her to go so dark!! She hasn't visited the groomers yet but will be doing so very son as does resembling a fluffy teddy bear!! Will her colour look different when the puppy fluff comes out??
Would love to post pics but I can't work out how >:(
Any thoughts on what to 'expect' her to end up looking like?!? :005:
-
Yes you will be amazed at how different she looks in say a year's time, riley was the same at that age, almost black , now at 2 1/2 he's got lots of roan now the puppy coat has gone.
-
Thanks Jane for the reply. It's so fascinating how they change isn't it!! I expected her to be a dark roan but not quite this dark :005: We were torn between her and a solid black..... Not much difference now haha ;)
-
If you have her clipped short by the groomer she will look spotty like a Dalmatian rather than looking roan ;)

Hoping to add a pic I've just taken, doesn't normally work!!

I can still see a lot of roan in there though.

Gives you a little idea of how the coat does change.

Thank you and cant wait to see how your little one develops.
I brush him myself every day but I have a really good grooming lady who trims him .

I have a roan and although she is an orange one, I always used to say it was like watching a butterfly develop! Every day I saw different colours / shapes appear.
-
My Blue Roan was a black bear cub when I took her to the groomers for the first time, when I picked her up I was reminded of her beautiful colouring and as she got older more silver has come out.
Patp is rights it's like watching a beautiful butterfly develop.

Aww gorgeous pics and makes me believe my fluffy bear will develop into a sleek cocker :005:

Bella and Millie were quite white when a few weeks old and got darker and darker, nothing like the pups we got!! We didn't appreciate they would get so dark, that said we should have expected it as both parents were dark Roans. Millie is a bit darker than Bella, we had them shorn for the summer and Bella looks much lighter. It was amazing watching the colours develop. I love them whatever colour they are.
-
Totally agree it's amazing to watch the roaning process. Poppy's mum is blue roan and dad is a sable, her litter consisted of
1 blue roan
1orange roan
2 golden
2 sable
1 solid black
What a mixture eh!!!
:D

Poppy is beautiful :luv:
I'm off to Yvonne's tomorrow evening and will mention that you may be in touch ;) Miss Jinley was also groomed there recently - photos of Pearl and Jinley on the Stiperstones thread!

I can't find the photos? Wish I'd realised there was a Shropshire meet, we went to Haughmond Hill in Shrewsbury on bank hol.
Yes do tell her I'll be in touch as little miss Pops desperately needs de fluffing!! :005:

Following on from what Jane said, I have a pale blue roan but even the colour difference on him is quite noticeable. But the black hair grows thicker than the white. If they are hand stripped you'll still see the roan, if she's clipped she'll be spotty until her hair grows a little then you'll see her roan colours again :)
