Antivirus
« on: October 18, 2006, 11:59:11 AM »
I am presently using Norton and am advised it has 28 days left to go and I should update it.  It unfortunately neglects to say how much this is.  From a quick google I think it is about £49-£59.  At the same time I read some stuff which actually makes me wonder if Norton are that good?  Does anyone have any idea of how good they are or perhaps you know of a better cheaper alternative?

Thanks in advance
Rhona and Sam

Same here - AVG is excellent. Why pay for antivirus when you can get such a good program for free ;)

Ok - Ill be honest - I used to work for Norton and their Internet Security is very good product. AS long as you keep it up to date or enable auto updating.

If you want lots of free downloads and advice go to www.getsafeonline.org - it's an independent government/police website (with industry backing) with loads of information about keeping your computer secure and has links to paid for and free security software if you want it. Not just antivirus but firewall and anti-spyware software too. Unfortunately you tend to need all three to keep the criminals out of your PC.

Also as CAG says, try the public beta of Windows OneCare from Microsoft. Again I have to admit that I do work for Microsoft (although only 11 days til I leave). It should take all the business of updates away and keep your computer safe and working without you having to lift a finger.

www.GetSafeOnline.org would be my first port of call!
