Digi Pix Storage
« on: November 29, 2006, 08:27:17 PM »
As I'm no putter expert, I'm lookin' to you guys for advice  :shades:

I have loads and loads of digital photos some of which I've backed up on disc, but I've heard that this isn't always very reliable.

What method of back up do you use?

CD or DVD  ;)

OH backs his PC up onto an external hard disk; I'm hoping to pick one of these up off e-bay for my laptop soon  ;)

Mmmmmm that's the way I'm starting to think now too, just wondered if it was over kill - perhaps we're right.

I thought the discs were safe, but apparently not.

Just been looking at this one http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/RGNNR/3-/3251035/Freecom_Hard_Drive_400GB_USB_2_UK/Product.html - any good?

I've got an earlier version of that Freecom external hard drive that I used with a laptop to store films, videos, photos etc. It's really good, although the software that came with it made it really complicated to use - far easier to just plug in with the usb and let the auto-detect on pc find it.

400Gb is masses of storage space though - so if you only want to use it for photos then you might be better getting a 40 or 80Gb one for less than half the price. You can get some really neat slimline ones that fit in your pocket  (or handbag) - I've seen some on ebay for around £30.

It's always worth storing your photos on an online storage site like Photobucket too - in the event of a disaster whereby you lost everything, they'd still be there online.

Ive got one of them with  a GB of space which I put my essays/ presentations etc on .  things are really coming down in price arent they.I bet pete would like this for his christmas. to put all his spaniel pics on!!
