What ever you go for just make sure she doesn't download loads of stuff like music sharing programmes etc IMO downloads = death to computers!

She does download stuff - that's why my trusty 8 yr old PC is gasping its last  ph34r

Once she has her laptop she'll be banned from the main PC - any repair bills for her laptop can come out of her EMA grant  ;)

If you invest in a good Internet Security package, you can avoid many of the issues caused by downloads; yes, there are some good free anti-virus applications, but for a relatively cheap price, you can upgrade from the free software to an enhanced packages which include e-mail scanners, anti-spyware, and anti-spam software to give you even more peace of mind  :D

Of course, it helps if you avoid sites that promote illegal file sharing, too  ;)

Ello

PC World have a link on their website for refurbished laptops/pc's. Some are a great bargain! Also look at Ebuyer.com.....however if she want to carry it around a lot etc then going to the shop and touchiung/feeling/lifting will help you narrow down your choice! I have a Dell for work which is a great PC but it is very heavy....carrying it on business trips becomes a pain lol.

I'm starting to think that a refurbished one is the way to go - she doesn't take any notice of me warning her about downloading things so getting a pristine pricey new one seems a bit daft.  (However - I may get a pristine but not pricey one for me)  :005:
