Windows XP Service Pack 3
« on: August 23, 2008, 11:50:49 PM »
Has anyone on here installed this?

I've just done my windows update but not installed this as after looking on Google quite a few people have had problems with it.

I've installed SP3 and all seems well.

There is a warning about problems with AMD chips though - you need to download a hotfix for the chip before you install SP3.

Thanks for that, this confirms what I'd read on one of the sites I'd looked up.

Me, my brother and my dad installed it on our PCs and due to different probs we all ended up uninstalling it and re-insalled SP2.

I wouldn't install the thing. It's got too meny bugs and is causing too people too meny problems.
If you have installed it and it works fine, lucky you!  ;)

My PC has tried to install this today and I cancelled it because of the advice on here.  Would someone be able to tell us when it is safe to install it??  ;)

I installed this last week and have had nothing but problems since.  I spent 2 days not being able to get onto the internet  :o so uninstalled it and haven't had any problems since.   Will give it a while, then try again I think.

I have XP and Athlon AMD. I installed SP3 a few month ago and crashed the pc. Couldn't even get it to start up. I had to ring a technical helpdesk who managed to get in and uninstall it. I would be very wary of trying it again.

Same here - only options are install or cancel.  I don't want to install it by mistake  >:(
