Horizontal lines on laptop screen

My Acer Aspire laptop has flickering red horizontal lines appear on the screen from start up moving across the screen at different lengths from the left side of the screen.  The login screen is then a mix of blue and red colours instead of an all blue screen.  When I start using the internet the colours are not correct.  This lasts for approx. 20-30 minutes and then it suddenly corrects itself.

Anyone know what's going on

Not a laptop person and I'm sure there are better 'experts' than me here, but a few suggestions..

 LCD ribbon cable lose or needs replacing
Possible defective video card?
Maybe try video and bios driver update?

Thanks for the suggestions   Today I've kept my laptop on all day so that I didn't have the problem on start-up.  However I've noticed that if I adjust the angle of the screen slightly then the lines appear briefly again.  What's the LCD ribbon cable?

The cable that runs between the screen and the motherboard on the laptop...

Just a suggestion, apparently they do wear out or become loose..

Don't want to worry you, but I used to work at a company where we had Acer laptops and I had three of them die on me over four years - this was how it started every time
