Cockers Rare Breed In Canada
« on: June 03, 2005, 12:49:54 PM »
I found out yesterday from the ECS rescue in North America, that there are only about 100 ecs registered in Canada each year, interesting does that classify them as rare breed no wonder I have never seen one. There is lots of American Cockers though!! Just out of curiuosity how many are in the UK each year probably alot more then here  :) !!!

Over 40k registered in the UK last year alone - cockers have suffered a bit from their own popularity in the UK and are bred to a high number. Also, KC registration alone doesn't guarantee whether the cocker (or any breed) has been bred responsibly... and then there are the number of cockers bred that aren't registered with the KC, and/or are registered instead with some dodgy equivalent (e.g. the Dog Lovers Club - DLC - in the UK which isnt worth the paper it's printed on) - so we could probably at least DOUBLE that number of 40k...

Think you're getting mixed up with Labs, Mike ;) Labradors had over 45,000 registrations last year whilst there were over 16,000 Cocker registrations. Bad enough but not as bad as the Lab situation thankfully (though you're right, that doesn't include all those not registered or registered with other companies)

There are lots of labradors and golden retreivers in Canada there is at least 4 or five on every spca site, also lots of border collies, pit bulls and husky mixes. The american cocker has suffered over here because of over popularity. Are there any american cockers over there in the UK?
