I didn't know either until recently...  But we will be getting an American Cocker Spaniel pup in February next year... I thought I'd better start reading up on what we can and should expect.   ;)

As you know vera, each breed poses its own problems although you are better qualified than most to cope.
What you really need is an English or welsh working cocker or both to know the meaning of chaos. ;)( I have both)
I took a friend out who was looking for her first dog and thinking of the breed and I think my boys with their energy and activity levels put her off.
They are not for the faint hearted for sure. but they are also willing workers and can turn their hand to most things.
My two workers love HTM, it's just a shame I have two left feet.
I have never owned an american and I'll be desperate to meet him or her if they come to college to see what I've been missing.
Hope this works out.

Mark
I am sure it will... after all, what can be worse than a crazy saluki x collie (called Flash)...  :005: When we had an American Cocker puppy here for a few days, Flash absorbed all her energy for us by playing with her for hours... the other dogs taught her self-control, bite inhibition and general manners in no time... hubby and I simply cleaned up the odd puddle and for the rest of the time watched them enjoying themselves.  :luv: She was fantastic to train as well. Our three current dogs are the perfect combination to teach a naughty puppy almost all there is to know for a doglet I think.  :D

To be honest, as much as I looooove my lurchers (and I will always have two saluki lurchers, couldn't be without them... :luv:), as long as the new puppy is not majorly predatorial, I'll be totally happy and can cope with pretty much anything that gets thrown at me...

Oh, and yes, he'll definitely be coming to college at one point.  ;)
