Zorro got run over by a cyclist (but he's fine)
« on: March 28, 2007, 09:44:19 AM »
There's a cycle path in the local park and all the dog walkers always bemoan it as cyclists use it like it's a race track and are often nearly hitting dogs. So this morning a guy came whizzing around a corner, Zorro was standing still, turned around to see what was coming and got knocked over, squeaked as the front tyre went over one of his ears and growled as the back tyre went over his front leg  ph34r, then got up and came running to me for a cuddle.

Anyway he is fine, probably just a bruised leg, thankfully. The cyclist did at least stop to make sure Zorro was okay - I was about to launch into one at him but Bella did it for me, she came to check baby bro was okay and then went prancing up to the cyclist woof-woof-woofing at him saying "you silly man, what have you done to my brother?!"  :luv: The cyclist turned the colour of a beetroot and mumbled an apology and went slowly off...

Anyway Zorro seems absolutely fine, he came home and was leaping on and off the bed and body slamming Bella as usual, but I'll keep an eye on him just in case. No doubt he will now have a thing about cyclists...  ::)

Awww poor wee Zorro, so glad he is okay :-* :-* And hope he doesn't develop a cyclist complex, although who could blame him! Did the cyclist not have brakes  ::) >:( >:( I hope he apologised!

It would be perfectly normal after what has happened to him but let's hope it's not the case!

We have a hard time with "thrill seeker" mountain bikers here. You know the type that want to ride down the mountainside in one go!
Our dogs have been lucky so far - although we have had the odd close call. >:(

We have more trouble with the mini motos here. Nearly got killed by two just the other week.

I do hope Zorro will get over it without any problems.

He does sound as though he's fine, physically, but do bear in mind that with bruising you often feel more sore after you have rested so he may feel a bit sorry for himself later on. Also keep an eye on his ear for signs of abscess formation. There's not much room for expansion there and it could happen quite easily after a bruise. I think even bruising there would be quite sore, but at least it isn't on a muscle which would probably be worse.

rambling a bit, hope that made sense, Claire! ::)

We have a shared use cycle/pedestrian path on  our local common, they have painted a white line up the middle (path is only 8 feet wide at most) and have painted pictures of people one side and bikes the other - trouble is the dogs don't know what the pictures mean! :005:  ...and care even less.  because we use this path quite often Harley is now very bike savvy but my god! you would think the cyclists are tring to break the land-speed record most of the time.

Hope Zorro is OK - hugs & best wishes

I'll keep an eye on Zorro over the next couple of days - Annette thanks for the advice on his ear, I'd not thought of that.

The little puggle we were walking with who's only 4 months and about 3" high (very cute  :luv:) almost got run over in exactly the same way last week when he ran between the wheels of a cyclist in the exact same spot - it's on a corner so you can't see the cyclists coming and they just don't bother slowing down.  >:D

 She's a fiesty lass, always has been and she won't put up with anyone doing wrong to her little bro - she takes on the cats at home if they ever have a go at Zorro, she goes running round them woofing and telling them off, and if you stand on Zorro's foot and he squeaks she comes running over and gives you a real look  :luv:

That cyclist would have probably had Bella running after him if he had not stopped.  :005:  Poor little Zorro, that's awful.  :'( But glad to hear he seems OK.

Poor Zorro, hope he's ok.

Cosby was almost run over by a scrambler bike when he was younger and since then he is absolutly terrified of them.  If we hear them in the distance we have to put him on his lead, as he once got spooked by one and ran away.  Took us ages to find him and we were terrified.

I'm not saying that this will happen to Zorro as every dog is deffierent, and I truly hope he doesn't becaome fearful of bikes, but it may be worth keeping an eye on him next time there are bikes around.
