Title: Who here on COL has their own Kennel name?

I was just wondering who here owns their own kennel name and what theirs are?
Our kennel name has just been granted to us, and it is Gowderbank :D

What were your reasons for getting a kennel name?
Ours is because we're thinking about trialling and want to be able to easily trace any dogs that we breed in the future.

I think you've answered your own question, and you'll probably find that's the main reason any of us have one Mary, whether we are involved in the show or working side. :D

Yes, Nicola I'm thrilled, especially as Gowderbank was only our second choice on the list.
Unfortunately our first choice Wrenside was too similar to an already registered affix called Brenside, I think the KC do a sterling job making sure kennel names aren't too similar :blink:

Anyone on here have any affixes registered for working cockers?

I do love the show affixes, they usually have something wonderfully flambouyant about them :D and really give you an idea of how stunning the dogs belonging to the name must be :blink:

Mine is Seggamyr and my dogs are working cockers. Again for similar reasons to yourself.

It is a combination for the colloquial name for our village, Sacriston is known as Segga and the myr is the second part of my husbands business COL-MYR adapted from our surname Myers.

We decided on Gowderbank because it is the name of a local piece of land that we rough shoot over and it's got absolutely beautiful views down towards Pendragon Castle and down the valley towards the top end of Kirkby Stephen. Infact the Leeds to Carlisle railway route goes right through the land about 5 mins before it reaches Kirkby Stephen station, who knows one of you guys might see us out shooting there one day!! ph34r

Only by adding your affix to the end of her name ie. Samsalin Stella of youraffix

Can't really remember why we chose Shenmore - think we might have just stuck a pin in the map :005: We've bred 2 Show Champions carrying our affix and several other CC & RCC winners.

Jane, it must be so rewarding having several of your own dogs as champions :blink:

I'm hopefull that I will go into trialling with one of Bella's pups and/or even Bella in order to achieve a standard for our dogs. It's wonderful seeing other working cockers out on shoots who have been trialed as well as used for normal shoot events. When comparing Bella to some of these dogs I don't think she's too far off the mark, and with a bit of polishing I'm sure she could give some of the dogs a run for their money :D

I've bred 2 litters under my Affix and kept 2 bitches, Gracie is Glowstar Fly me to the Moon and Lola is Glowstar Serial Thriller :D

I have added the affix to my dogs though and have been successful with showing them - Douglas "Kyna Charlie Brown at Derrindee" and Marvin "Shenmore Spruce at Derrindee".

I wanted one that would sound sort of celtic (being a Scot living in Ireland) but also wanted one that included "Megan" the name of my first working cocker. I hit upon Clonameg purely by chance when i saw a place called Clonmahon, liked the "clon" bit and then went a bit further to realise that Clonameg was sort of short for clone a megan (the whole point behind my future breeding plans!) and as a molecular biologist, i thought that it was sort of cool (sad i know...). Haven't added it to Megans registered name as felt it would be too much (we already cope with Snoozin Susan of Sleepytown!) but did add it to Brantz's who is now "Fancy Brantz of Clonameg" - not sure if we will make any titles, but hopefully should get our agility warrant some day!!

Why Galaxybears? Well I love brown Newfies, and adore chocolate, hence the galaxy bit, bears as everyone says the dogs look like bears :D

Have your children got second names? Why not try a combination of those names instead?

I had to agree with the Kennel Club though that Wrenside and Brenside are very similar sounding! Anyway, we're really happy with our second choice of Gowderbank :D
I would definitely fill up the 6 options though, just in case :-\

Mine is Pepperbox, first choice...lucky for me...thought it may have been taken already (e.g. by a staffie breeder).

I got it from looking through poppy seed catalogues (my first dog was Poppy). I know there are differences in opinion on this, but I think it is nice to include the new owners KC name to show where the dog is now residing as well as who bred it. Also, I am hoping there will be some little ones with my KC name in front of their names at some point in the future ;)

Highest award...well...as I havent bred a litter, none, but Storm has the beg-ex suffix (an obedience qualification).

Good Luck with sorting your KC name out debz...hope you can reach an agreement with the KC.

"LUANSHYA" (Loo-an-sha) It is a small town in Zambia, Africa, where I lived as a child (from birth to 4) as my dad worked in the copper mines.

Its sentimental as my first memories are there when I had two labs (goldie & blackie - how original) :D

One of his achievements was the modern show jumping position (weight off the horses back with rains freely given over a fence) as opposed to the old English hunting style which was heavy in the saddle with the upper body leaning back and holding on to the rains. This was not only relevant to me because I used to earn my living from riding but also as I am quite a free spirit and would hate to be held back:)
Caprilli was still my second choice as I started breeding while I still lived in Germany where my affix was "Millview" - named after the farm that we own back home. So far I only ever bred Dalmatians but it would be nice to breed the occasional litter of Cocker Spaniels in the future. Having said that - we did not select our puppy purposely for this and if she should not develop as hoped or pass all her test and other "must haves" then I would not go out and buy another just so I could get started.
