Vegas To See A Specialist
« on: May 24, 2005, 02:49:08 PM »
The vets now think that the next course of action for investigating the weight loss would be an endoscopy :(  Luckily we have a vet hospital just along the road from us, so called one of the vets there and had a chat. Basically, there are two options - an endoscopy where they will be able to get a small biopsy, or open him up and get a few larger biopsies. I have to phone them this afternoon but just can't decide what to do for the best. Looking at him now, I can't justify opening him up as he doesn't appear unwell but on the other hand, if I opt for an endoscopy and it isn't conclusive, we may then have to open him up anyway and that would mean 2 anaesthetics

Thank god for insurance - its certainly going to be taking a bit of a battering over this one

Tough decision Gill. I can only say what i think I would do if this were Daisy or Jazz in the same position... and I think I'd probably go for the endescopy, and leave the opening up as a last resort (that may not have to happen). That's my instinct anyway, but I dont envy you having to make a decision like this.

I would do the same as Mike :) The endoscopy may be all that's needed.
Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope you get to the bottom of the  weight loss soon.

Tracey :)

I'd go for the least invasive one first too - may not need to do another one hopefully.
Good luck

Tough call Gill but I think I'd go for the least invasive option first too. At least, you're close to a vet hospital which makes these things a lot easier. Fingers crossed all goes well :)

Well it's reassuring to know you all thought the same as me ;)  He's booked in for an endoscopy on 7th June. Hopefully it will provide us with some answers

Good luck with the op on the 7th.

Like you we are quite close to a vet hospital (animal Health Trust in Newmarket or the Vet School attached to Cambridge University)
